Going into the All-Star break, are the Rockest about where we expected them to be -- a .500+/- team? (Houston 27 23 .540) With all the hand wringing lately, you would think we were the worst team in the NBA. However, it seems the Rocs are about what we should have expected. A gritty, hard working team that lacks enough star power to be elite. Many posters on the board agreed with Morey's decision to use this a year to gain experience for younger players and get in position to add talent for next year (hopeful return of Yao and possibly a trade or free agent for another elite player), rather than add a vet to win a few more games in the short term. Despite the fast start to the season, did anyone really expect us to compete for a championship this year? Aren't we about where we expected to be (maybe a little bit overacheiving)?
These are my thoughts exactly; I've been amazed at the griping and complaining on this board during this rough stretch. This is just a developmental year, which is why we are seeing Dorsey getting play and Ariza getting extended minutes...I really think this year we can't lose. We get to the playoffs, the young players like Bud and Dorsey get some valuable experience. We miss the playoffs, we grab a lottery pick. Win-win situation. Let's just sit back and enjoy the ride.
Yeah, knowing going into the season that we would be without Tmac, Yao and Ron Artest(who by the way nearly punched Graham the other night) I expected about this.
I said before the season started that the Rockets could end the season anywhere between 7 seed or a 10 seed in the west. Anywhere else I would either be overexcited or dissapointed depending where they land. I saw this season as a year which the young players have a chance to improve and gain confidence in their play. I am one thats against making crazy trades for players that will play one year and leave. I never saw this year as a title year or even a contender. But I did see this year as a title building year for next season and for future season as long as we make smart moves in the future by selling high and buying low. Rockets will be contenders next year in the west watch.
I'll be honest I never expected us to be a 50/50 team I expected us to have T-mac back on board in contract year by January and making a push for middle seed. And then Yao coming back in the last month and off the bench pushing us deep into the playoffs
So I'm going to be blunt and say that this years rockets have shocked us all so far. But.... Landry is doing just what I expected.
