I disagree. The tone of the ad is irrelevant. The content of the ad is largely irrelevant. The fact that an anti-abortion group was given any airtime whatsoever is the relevant point here. That, coupled with the fact that CBS has shown their hypocrisy in refusing to air "issue" ads in the past due to the left-leaning nature of those issues. Those things haven't changed.

Did you even see the ad? How was this an "issue" ad in any way shape or form?

All I hear from you is crying.

If you watched it with only one eye/ear affixed to the tv, you would've thought it was either an ad celebrating how great Tim Tebow is or an ad for Crest white strips.

Yep, and as a television broadcaster, it can deny any ad regardless of reason, be they CBS, FOX, ABC, NBC, or Comedy Central.

If the pro-choice movement hadn't gotten so up in arms about it I wouldn't have even known what the ad was for.

As it was going, my Dad asked "is this the abortion commercial"? I said no, it looked more like an eHarmony commercial. Then Tebow came into view. To be fair, I wasn't listening at all to what the woman was saying.

Huge waste of money, if you ask me.

But the government census commercial was well worth it, right? After all, none of us paid for either.

I just saw Tim Tebow on TV and assumed it was the commercial, I was not listening either.

However I think it was money well spent for what they wanted to do. You are talking about it here, it created controversy, imo they got more than what they paid for because the commercial was on and there was a big discussion/advertisement of it going on berforehand.

But does it change anyone's mind? Is there someone out there thinking about an abortion and then deciding not to get one because of Tim Tebow and his mom? Somehow I doubt it. Buzz or not, it won't change anyone's mind.

I think it is nigh impossible to understand what changes someone's mind. You would have to be inside their head and heart to understand the process someone goes through. By your way of thinking, I guess no one ever changes their mind... and we know that that is not true.

True, it's an immeasurable metric. I also don't see why anyone buys stuff based off commercials. Spam advertising exists because people click and buy, which is also preposterous to me. So yeah, I guess people's minds are changed by attractive advertisements.

Anyway, it was hard to tell that's what it was about anyway... mostly because I wasn't listening I guess.

It was an advertisement for "focus on the family.com" which deals with a number of familial issues. I suspect it has driven a lot of traffic to their web site. If that's the case, then it was money well spent.

    My two cents:

When I'm watching the superbowl, I never enjoy seeing ads that are blatantly controversial.

This year, I did not know any background info about the Tebow commercial until after the Superbowl.

When I saw the Tebow commercial, I didn't like it, and here's why:

It looked like another one of those commercials that isn't really about anything and tries to drive you to their website in order for you to figure out what it was about. Like I'm some dumb sheep who's gonna think, "Gee, I didn't understand that commercial at all. I'm going to log onto their website to figure it out."

    I don't chase advertisements.
I don't like ads that try to get me to chase them.
and, now knowing what kind of ad it was...
I especially don't like ads that try to funnel people unknowingly into becoming an audience to their controversial views.

I wouldn't say I was offended - as some have pointed out here, I don't get offended that easily. It's just a commercial.

I simply didn't enjoy the commercial. I'd think it would be in CBS's best interests to choose to air superbowl commercials that will be enjoyed by their audiences.

i think this is a pretty ridiculous topic. a large percentage of the superbowl ads explicitly glorify sex and violence, but the debate is over whether a tebow abortion commercial is allowed? you can disagree with the message, but if those godaddy commercials and the meagan fox commercial are okay to broadcast, there's not much of a moral argument against showing the tebow commercial.
