Two very different drinks with varying opinions on the "manliness" of such an order. This debate sprung up today in my office, and as the debate drew down the middle, I pose it to the infinite wisdom of Clutchfans. Guy ordering Amaretto Sour. Manlaw violation? Guy ordering Whiskey Sour. Manlaw violation?
I ordered a Cherry Vodka Sour the other day. But this was after I downed a couple of 4 horseman shots at a bar after playing football (tackle not touch). Hoo - rah!!
Whiskey sours are okay. It just depends on how they're prepped. Some places put them in funky glasses with all sorts of garnish. Eat that cherry before you leave the bar. If you want a real man drink, similar to a whiskey sour, order an old fashioned.
Bad idea. Trust a former barback, it is never a good idea to eat the bar fruit. Amaretto Stone Sour for me, the OJ cuts the sour.
"Man laws" are for girlie-men and little boys. Go through life like you have a pair. Jeezus, man. Why the hell would you care about such trivial things? Are you 12?
Amaretto is low alcohol % so... but if you drink it in your coffee in the morning you actually gain points.
the thadeus will let girls buy him these drinks, but he will not buy them himself. Instead, he relies on the potency of his supreme love-maker pheromones to waft throughout the establishment and attract sexy ladies and free drinks like a powerful electromagnet attracts shiny bits of precious metal.
I can't believe there are multiple options in the poll -- it is a sad, sad day for Clutchfans. Both of these drinks are man violations of the extreme variety. Whiskey is a fine beverage, but there are so many ways to drink it before you douse it with high-fructose corn syrup and put a cherry in it. For the love of all that is holy, I urge all of you voting anything other than "neither" to recant and change your vote now. This is so upsetting that I will now start a monk-like hiatus from the BBS while I contemplate what is to be a man and what it is to mix other liquids with whiskey. (Amaretto will consume none of my meditative retreat whatsoever, as it is a petroleum byproduct of extreme heinosity.)
Drinking an Amoretto sour is not manly. Learning how to make one for your girlfriend will earn you major points and certainly pay dividends. Tip - use real lemons instead of a mix.
An Amaretto Sour is one of my favorite drinks, HOWEVER....I always feel weird about ordering them. They do seem like kinda a "girly" drink. Its not quite as bad as having a wine cooler while all your buds are drinking a beer, but its not the most "manly" drink in the world. It depends on the company I'm keeping at the time. On the bar fruit -- ALWAYS TELL THEM TO KEEP IT OR HOLD IT!!!! There is no coverup for eating a cherry/orange from a mixed drink. Your man-card will be taken away!!!
The only thing to you should mix with good whiskey is....water. Also, I like tea-flavored vodka, no mixes necessary, just add water and a lemon/lime(southern) slice. Makes a nice cheap drink for the house.
I order non-manly drinks whenever I feel like it. It's not often, but occasionally, especially if eating at one of these new agey type restaurants with cocktail menus where they've made up some new drinks, i may venture into the non-manly arena. Also, another situation that could merit a less "manly" drink would be any hot, outdoor type situation. Say after a round of golf. I really like a Greyhound, for example, which is grapefuit juice + vodka, and occasionally can have a non-manly look to it, but it's the perfect drink when sitting on the back porch in the evening of a houston summer night, for example. I rarely ever have amaretto, though, and never an amaretto sour. I do like a well balanced white russian, with amaretto, though. I like whiskey, but typically will go with a single malt scotch on the rocks, sometimes mixed with a little water, instead, if i'm in a whiskey/scotch/bourbon kind of mood. All that said, i may go with an Old Fashioned next time I'm ordering.
I drink Manhattans more than anything else these days. It's a man's drink, I don't care if there is a cherry in it. I used to drink Amaretto Sours when I was 21. I would never order one out in public now though (I'm 30.) Whiskey Sours are still totally acceptable.
i prefer a manhattan, but The Monk looks good: Ingredients: 2-1/4 ounces Sazerac Rye 3/4 ounce Benedictine 1/4 ounce Yellow Chartreuse 5 drops Fee Brothers Aromatic Bitters
Drink what you want, don't let others limit your choices. If you want to drink a Smirnoff ice when everyone else is drinking a scotch and water, just do it and do it with confidence Why is this, if you don't mind me asking? Should I warn the lime biters off of the limes following tequila shots?
