Big @$$ gash on forehead, cut above right eye, bloody nose, lost mouthpiece.....i think his opponent was bit confused wondering what he could do to slow him down. The announcers kept comparing him to pacquiao but i dont believe he's as quick.

No. He won. DeMarco did not get off the stool for the 10th round. The unintenional elbow made a crazy bloody gash on his head. With open scoring, he was winning every round and DeMarco just stoped fighting back. Between the 8th and 9th DeMarco wasn't even responding to his corner when they were talking to him.

Valero stops DeMarco in ninth round

Edwin Valero of Venezuela retained his WBC lightweight belt by stopping Mexico's Antonio DeMarco on Saturday night.

DeMarco sat in his corner and declined to come out for the 10th round of their title fight. The Mexican was well behind on points and, though he had no obvious injuries, officials said he retired on the advice of his handlers.

When the fight ended, Valero was eight points up on the scorecards of all three judges.

Valero improved to 27-0, with none of his bouts going the distance. DeMarco had only his second career defeat against 23 wins and a draw.

"My physical strength started to show," Valero said. "Little by little, I started gaining ground. The first three or four rounds I couldn't hit him with my jab, but then I started to connect."

Valero picked up a gash across his forehead in the second round, which came from an elbow by DeMarco that was ruled accidental. Valero needed three stitches afterward to close the wound.

Valero said he'd like a fight with Manny Pacquiao, which would force him to move up several weight categories.

"That's the fight the world wants to see," the Venezuelan said.

There could be many problems standing in the way of a Pacquiao-Valero fight.

Valero has been denied a U.S. visa because of a drunk-driving charge in Texas. He claims he was turned down because of his strong support for Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, a vocal critic of U.S. foreign policy in Latin America.

Valero also had a severe motorcycle accident in February 2001 that left him with a fractured skull and required surgery to remove a blood clot. He eventually failed a pre-fight exam in New York. He was handed an indefinite suspension that effectively banned him from fighting in the United States.

The Venezuelan claimed the belt with a second-round TKO of Antonio Pitalua in April last year, and defended it in December when Hector Velasquez retired after six rounds.

DeMarco took an interim version of the belt with a 10th round TKO of Jose Alfaro in October last year.

I don't think he can beat pac. Pac basically does exactly what valero does, but better.

The guy I could see challanging pac would be Gamboa. But Boa needs more experience, but Boa's speed and power is amazing. He might have quicker combinations than even Pac has right now.

DeMarco is a bum. He didn't even come to fight. I was referring to him being in a fight where he is actually threatened. He may have improved as well. I just know him from his time in Vegas and watching him fight. As to the other stuff in your post, whatever you say. Have at it. I'm not going to get into a pissing match on the internet.

You do realize Gamboa fights at 126 right now right? Manny will long be retired by the time Yuri is anywhere near 140.

A lot of the guys Valero has dominated and KO'd are not bums -- he's won two lightweight belts and it's not like their isn't a shortage of good fighters in the lighter divisions. Seriously, do you really consider DeMarco a bum? Valero isn't the best ever, but he is a very exciting fighter who is no doubt the real deal.

You have heard of moving up in weight class, right?

Anyway I figured out the reason you feel superior to everybody on the board in boxing. You are affiliated with Danny Jacobs boxing camp in some way.

Bum may be harsh but I don't consider him above a C level fighter. I'd put him in a class with guys like jason Litzau honestly. I love watching Valero fight. We went to the Austin card to watch him and to support Hylon Williams. Hell, I used to make it a point just to watch him spar. I think a boxer with angles would give him real problems. Lets say a Joan Guzman (in his prime not now) would box circles around him because he could take a punch. He may prove me wrong though. he's certainly a threat to anyone because of his punching power. Quick Question. Did you think James Kirkland was the real deal before he went to prison (he's supposed to be back in Aprril on this year for anyone who cares)? I see them as similar fighters. Great to watch but prone to getting outboxed. I blame Teken for turning Valero into a brawler. They used him as nothing more then a huge marketing ploy and never brought in anyone to help him train. He should have stuck with kenny Adams in my honest opinion.

I have heard of moving up in weight class. How long do you think it would take Gamboa to move up to 140 comfortably? How long do you think manny will continue fighting?

I don't feel superior to anyone. You just started saying that. You are entitled to your opinion. I'm not going to get offended by anything you say.

Don't know much on Kirkland except when he pops up in the news for doing something moronic. What is it now felony firearm possession?

Right now their are so many fights out there for Gamboa that I doubt he'd get to Pac, and why would pac even want to fight somebody like gamboa anyway.

But their could be a track. Gamboa's next fight is most likely juanma. If he wins, then he could go any number of directions. But if he fights say Marquez and wins, it could put Gamboa on the national radar for a fight with Pac.

It all depends on how Gamboa wants to approach it. I think he and Pac could get a fight like that together, but Gamboa is going to have to build his reputation before Pac would be willing to fight him anyway.

Yeah, he's a moron. He''s been in jail for over a year now. Felony arm possession was exactly what it was. He was about to have his parole revoked anyways, because he was seen buying a gun at a gun show. Not smart at all. He decided to live in a bad part of Austin even though GBP was paying him well. DLH came down and has made a last ditch effort to save his career. We'll see when he gets out. I don't see him changing to be honest. Nobody can babysit this guy 24-7 and that's about the only way he stays out of trouble.

I really hope his next fight is JuanMa. It seems Arum is doing a little back peddaling after their last fights. I understand from the business side of it. Juanma is a huge draw and at least to me, it's pretty apparent Gamboa would handle him rather easily.

I don't see manny fighting past next year to be honest. I think the Mayweahter fight will be his last. I think Gamboa will stop at 135 for a few years. There are plenty of good fights there and that's why I don't see a chance of him fighting Manny.

I agree with you on there being no immediate reason for Manny to fight him. Gamboa has developed a nice following but manny is an international star. Plus, no way Decubas puts Gamboa in with Manny so soon. He isn't close to read. I'd like to see Cabellero vs. Gamboa. That's a war

A Paq v. Valero fight might look just like this one -- with the same outcome.
