In the video, he mentioned he was practicing with the starters. Dorsey has the talent to take over the Chuck Hayes role and would also bring more of a shot blocker presence to the team. I'm sure this is what the Rockets envisioned when they drafted Dorsey. Chuck does a great job of playing one-on-one defense, but he doesn't guard the basket. Only one game, so let's not jump the gun, but this could be the start of the Joey Dorsey era.

I agree. He looks more humble. Getting benched all year and got send to D-league really put him against the wall. Now he knows he has to earn it to stay in NBA.

I just hope that he can keep this attitude up.

You're right, I forgot to mention that it was about this season. :p Nonetheless, Dorsey's block really channeled Dwight Howard.

Which makes Birdman's story even more impressive considering as well where both went to school (birdman went to blinn junior college and was undrafted). For someone to say that Dorsey's ceiling is much higher than Birdman's and imply that that's obvious is ridiculous considering what Birdman's done. Even though it's not astronomical he's been a very good role player on pretty good teams. This could be the highlight of Joey Dorsey's whole nba career and it wouldn't surprise me.

I hope that doesn't turn out to be the case though.

Not surprising. It was quite obvious that once Dorsey entered the game, the Rockets defense improved *tremendously*. I was particularly impressed with his defense on Zach Randolph (who curiously is still being written off by some around these parts -- this guy is a monster and a fairly gifted scorer who has finally put it together this season). I really really hope this was not a flash in the pan. I'm tired of seeing our bigs get pushed around routinely every night. Dorsey brought a defensive presence to the team that normally only exists when Yao Ming is on the court.

I watched the game and I was pumped up by Dorsey's performance. He will never be "Howard" (whoever said that dosen't know sports) but he can be a solid workhorse who can play 15-20 minutes a game and give a solid 7 points and 7 or so boards. I know it's just one game, but I definetly saw something to build off of last night....

I agree that Dorsey is more athletic than Hayes, and everyone on the Rockets knows that. But, like you and Shane Battier said, his basketball I.Q. isn't quite where the Rockets want it to be at. I do want Dorsey to eventually start one day, and I maybe this is the first step in that direction.

I think he can get you a double-double in only 25 minutes.

I agree with you here, and, arguably, Dorsey may have been considered DM's worst draft pick to this point, but last night showed what he (with the rest of the staff) saw in him.

NIce vid but I wouldn't extend based on that Cato-esque performance. Maybe it gives him trade value?

Nice performance, but I doubt he will ever do aswell again...

Good for his trade value though if he can keep it up until the AS break.

Is it me or does Dorsey look a lot like Paul Pierce? During his interview with Bullard at the end of the video I couldn't help but think about Pierce the whole time.

I'd say he is the next Ben Wallace.

Anybody who saw the WHOLE GAME and not just the highlights could see that the energy increased dramatically and the momentum swung in the Rockets favor when Dorsey came in the game. I'm not going to say he's replacing Hayes b/c Hayes' IQ is far and above Dorsey's, but Dorsey seemed more aware of positioning on the court, and he definitely played better defense on Gasol and Randolph than any of our bigs, including Hayes.
