Agreed slightly. If you absolutely hate Ariza and see him as a bum, then in essence shouldn't you hold the GM responsible for this atrocity? I mean, its one thing to be a person like myself proclaiming who terrible a signing this was from the beginning. If I turned out wrong, well then what do I know, im just a fan. But this is Morey's job to know. You can't say things like ... well X team was willing to pay him, or look at his playoff perfromance. You go by the players history. And B Ball history tells us that you rarely see a player improve dramatically after his 4th or 5th year in the league. Nor do you rarely see a player go from bench player, to 5 option as a starter and then become a great/really good player. I mean, I can't think of the instance off the top of my head. So in retrospect, spread some of that Ariza hate to the man who paid him 35 million. Im not bashing Morey at all here, but we do tend to be a little homeristic with the Morey love. Yes AB and Landry were gold mines, and the deal to get Scola was robbery, but then we have Steve Francis, Mike James part 2, David Anderson, Dorsey, and paying 7 million for 3 second rounders who for two of them, more than likely, never get anything significant for playing time in the NBA. CD was flawed and made lots of mistakes, but at least the guy brought in the best talent (even though it didn't work out) Houston was ever able to get. He got Houston Barkley, He got Houston Pippen (who at the time wasn't floored at the signing), he got us Drexler. Shandon Anderson at the time was considered one of the best FA available, Mo Taylor was highly sought also.
Right after Lowry/Landry/Anderson start getting Moochie/Fat Mo/Cato type deals! Until then Morey is pretty safe.
I don't see why ariza is being hated on so much, I didn't expect the guy to come in and average 20+ a game to be honest with yall, the reason Taz flourished in the triangle offense was because of one man... Kobe. Ariza needs that star talent next to him to feed off of. Plus this season is a rebuliding season, to make it to the playoffs would be the cherry on top of a surprise season already. Once ariza works his ass off this summer like I know he will, partner him up with a good solid talent, and of course Yao. Ariza will come around we have time. I think morey will hear hate from fans if no trade is made b4 well y'all know when.
well non of the fans know of what kinda of deals that Morey is getting offered, if he gets offered trash for T-mac, he's not going to trade him. As for Ariza, he hasn't even played one whole season yet with the Rockets. People wanted Horry out in his second year.. look what happened.
O RLY? We got these four top-notch rotation players for Rafer Alston, V-Span, and some draft picks and cash. I could say the same for Artest, who didn't stick around but was still a steal. Once we get past Gay-Battier, who did we ever send away that we now wish we hadn't? I'm not saying Morey is perfect, he obviously could have cashed in on Tracy and/or Yao before trouble started and we'd be better off. But for the circumstances, it's crazy to say he's downgraded the team.
What elite player did you have in mind or are you just preparing to wet yourself when we end up trading McGrady for something realistic?
Morey has practically begged people to hate him for Ariza's poor shooting. He's the one telling him to take all those shots. If they told Ariza they wanted him to be a main offensive option than that's something I have a problem with. He can be a good complimentary wing with nice defense and intangibles. He's great in that role, I don't know why you'd want to take him out of it.
I think that applies mostly to whiners, criers, and general malcontents. They're the ones who tend to speak most loudly, but they do not represent the majority of fans. A lot of whining and crying from a small minority does not make their opinion the majority opinion -- it just makes for obnoxious noise and behavior. The constant generally seems to be that a small number of fans make a lot of negative noise, and they do so even in times of prosperity.
Unproductive and pointless it is, to hate Darryl Morey at this point in time. However, I certainly feel that Mr. Morey is unjustifiably placed on a high pedestal, while being lauded as a genius. Until he delivers a roster that earns an NBA championship, judgment needs to be reserved.
I give rookies 3 years. New players from other teams 1 1/2 years. General Managers 5 years. Ariza is stretching my patience!
When will the fans start hating on Morey? Why can't we just be grateful? We just finished the most difficult portion of our schedule with a plus .500 record. Why can't you take the perspective that we're playing competitive, respected basketball with a roster basically under $34M talent? Morey has already become one of the most respected GM's in the league. Personally, I hope he stays a long long time and we're lucky to have him. World would be a damn cool place if people chose appreciation over ingratitude.
I think he meant deals that have come up for Tmac. Not past deals. And I agree, we should not trade him for anything less than an all-star type player.
marty schottenheimer went 14-2 and got fired the next year. Its kind of sad how it works, but you already see a few fans turning. I think morey is a pretty good gm, but I have no doubt given enough time fans will eventually turn on him like they do on pretty much everyone else.
Trade deadline this year, no matter what Morey does, it probably won't improve the team a lot and people will hate on him for not taking one of the rumored phantom trades that everyone was speculative about.
After the revenge Morey took against McGrady many NBA players are already possibly beginning to be weary of the Rockets & Morey. (not to excuse what McGrady did to the Rockets)
