*From Realgm.com* The Morning Journal, a rather unknown source of information, is reporting that the Cleveland Cavaliers are ready to trade Andre Miller to the Clippers in a three-team trade. Bob Finnan quotes a Western Conference source as saying that Darius Miles and Harold Jamison will be traded to Cleveland. There is no report on who the third team is. The Clippers and Cavs tried to close a deal on draft night that hit several stumbling blocks. The original deal reportedly included Lamar Odom and the 8th overall pick in the draft. I think this could be good deal for the Cavs. Miles could turn out to be a star. But he could never develop. The Clipps get a star who is a true pg. His assists will improve on a better team, and this should put the Clipps into the playoffs. The Rockets may end up not having a spot. No doubt the competition in the west this year will be fierce. The east is falling further and further behind the west in terms of talent every year. If Daruis Miles starts scoring, he could be a monster in this league.
Andre Miller for Darius Miles http://www.zwire.com/site/news.cfm?newsid=4871668&BRD=1699&PAG=461&dept_id=46370&rfi=6 I can't tell if this article is saying it's about to happen, or if the Cavs are just "ready" to do it. Supposedly a three-team deal. Clippers are going to be good..... but you know management will screw it up eventually.
The Cavs better be getting something big from the third team because Harold Jamison and Darius Miles arn't worth Andre Miller alone.
Clutch is right, the Clipps management is gonna screw the team up eventually. The owner Sterling said he won't pay Brand the MAX so look for him to leave after this year. I don't think he's gonna pay Miller the MAX either so look for him to be a Clipp for only a year. QRichardson is in LOVE w/ Miles so if he is traded, look for him to leave when his contract is up. Odom is pissed that he was almost traded to the Cavs so look for him to bust out of LA after this season (...Rockets anyone?). Olawinkandi is looking to just sign a one year deal w/ the Clips so he can be a part of next years great FA class so he's gone after this year as well. EWS, youre right that the trade would make the Clips very good this year but it is definetly just a temporary thing. And have no fear b/c a healthy Rockets team will make the playoffs this year no matter what the Clipps do.
Agreed. What does Cleveland need with all of those athletic SF types that haven't shown too terribly much yet anyway? Jones, Davis, and then Miles? Doesn't make much sense. And then taking on Jamison's 3 year deal? Maybe they know something about him that we don't. I wonder, indeed, who the third team is. The Clippers are trading down in salary as is...so either some big contracts have to be involved from a third team to all three teams, or it's just a minor broker team. In any case - the Clippers definately get the better end of this deal. They'd become 2-deep at every position: Miller/Jaric, Piatkowski/Maggette, Odom/Richardson, Brand/Wilcox, and Olowokandi/Ely. Richardson may be unhappy with losing DMiles, but it's a business and if he's half the player he should be - he'll love having Miller on his squad.
I think this is part of the Cavs master plan to dump next season and enter the LB James sweepstakes. They wouldn't be going anywhere next year anyways and D Miles will sell jerseys and keep fans interested for the time being. Match Miles with DaJuan Wagner and you could have a scary tandem in a couple of years. Miles, Wagner, and James? Frightening. It's doable and probably worth the shot.
Probably right, but that's what the lottery was made for. Even if the Cavs are the worst team in the league by twenty games, the chances of them getting the first pick are still pretty slim. It saddens me to know that that piece-of-crap franchise has more fans show up to see their games than the Rockets. Part of that is probably attributed to Houston's ridiculous tickets price, but still. What's wrong with Houston? I wonder how long it will take before the city begins losing interest in the Texans.
Their is no way that the Clipps are trading Miles. The reason Odom is in all the trade talks is that they want him gone to clear room for Miles. Him and Q are the clipps. Brand will probaly be gone once his contract is for that reason.
Miles is explosive and athletic, but Odom is the better player. If they pull off that trade, on paper the Clippers just won ten more games. This will totally ruin their tight chemistry though. Miles is pretty tight with his teammates. Odom is well liked too, but they like Miles better.
That's pretty awesome! They would be a SOLID two deep at each position with everyone being pretty young (sans Piatkowski). It is amazing the position they are in where they are young and a good group of players but because the owner is not willing to spend they could be broken up. Could you imagine if Cuban had this situation? Man it must be tough to be a Clipper fan these days wondering if the team will blow up. As for D Miles. I would trade him for Miller in a heartbeat. He is still an enigma to me. I see a lot of potential there but he has not broken out the way Jermain O'neal or Tracy McGrady have. I wonder about Miles. Miles really needs to START at this point in his career so he can start to learn on the court the way Jermain O'neal did with the Pacers. And with Odom there I just don't see it happen. Chris
Looks like the newspaper was spouting a BS rumor or a trade that didn't go through. I can't find a confirmation the trade was done on ESPN or in the news.
I just read this. I thought I was going to be the first to post this. This site is amazing. I have been here for a while. Still amazes me. But, looks like a great deal for both teams. Miles, Wagner, James... would be crazy. But they have to pull the trigger on this deal and get lucky in the draft.
When was Miles EVER a good basketball player? Great athlete. Average to below average basketball player. Can you say Eddie Robinson?
Is Jaric better than Dooling?? These guys wont have to worry about a point for years... Dooling is pretty good.. He is FREAKING awesome in NBA2k2 for dreamcast.. dude dunks everything...
Cavs General Manager after the trade goes through: "Harold Jamison? Crap. I thought we were getting Antawn Jamison." I honestly can't see anyone on the Cavs' roster that would be traded for Darius Miles. Definitely not Andre Miller, nor could I see the Clippers wanting Lamond Murray, Ricky Davis, or any of those guys. Maybe they want to shore up their PG position by obtaining Bimbo Coles?
On ESPN Insider I just saw the mention of the Trade offer which is basically Darius Miles for Andre Miller. The Cavs apparently are trying to get Wilcox as well. But, nevertheless it appears that the Clippers feel that Miles is TOO STEEP a price for Miller. WHAT? If that deal was offered I would do it if I was the Clippers. You have Odom at SF and you can get back a great PG in return in Miller. Miles has a lot of talent but most of it is POTENTIAL whereas Odom and Miller are producing NOW! I would make the trade, especially when you know you still have Odom, Meggette and Richardson which can man the 2/3 positions for you. I don't see why the Clippers don't do that deal!?!? Chris
If it's true that Cleveland is offering Miller for Miles, then the Clippers should jump all over that. Sure Miles has potential, but what does he add to the team, maybe a spectacular dunk here and there. Miller would bring them the floor leadership they need.
I almost feel sorry for Elgin Baylor. Of course, if he saw me at my cubicle job, he'd raise an eyebrow at my pity/empathy; but I'm sure his job would be so much nicer if he had a real owner, and thus could put together a great team. Donald Sterling can't pay all those players when their extensions are due, so yes, he'll screw everything up. As long as he is making more $$$ than he is spending (no problem there), he could care less that he is a joke in the league (or he puts on blinders). I hope the Cavs have a good plan to get a real point guard. Apparently they have a second deal on the table with the Spurs to unload Hill and Murray and somebody for Steve Smith and Anthony Daniels. Daniels is decent but he's more of a 2. Miles can play some point forward, but Wagner is an Iverson type, and I say that with all sincerity; he played well in the summer league, I think he's gonna be a good one....but he's gonna be a short 2. Miles probably won't like going to Cleveland (I've never been there; cold and industrial seems to be the word on the place, but hell, Houston is hot and industrial) but he'll be back in the Midwest. Oh, wait: I live in the Midwest. (sigh) Oh well, Darius, make the best of it!
I think it's funny that all the Clips are going to become FA's at the same time. Brand, Odom, and Miller are all from the '99 crop. Olowokandi's from '98, Richardson '00. They have some serious personnel decisions to make. Maybe Wilcox will turn out to be good enough so that they can trade Elton at the deadline. Miles and Jamison for Miller is a steal, though. Miles just hasn't shown much more than raw athleticism in his first couple of years. Maybe he'll have a breakout year in Cleveland. Meanwhile, the West just keeps getting better.
