I do think that Les makes a lot of money from the Chinese connection, but it is not from Jerseys and Memorabilia which is shared by all nba owners. I don't think any of us really knows what those other business connnections are that are so lucrative. I did notice some Chinese signage at the Toyota center that I'm sure goes straight to Les and there are probably other endorsement contracts from Chinese beer companies and such. It is possible that it is publicity for his franchise that is so valuable to Les as opposed to hard dollars coming in, but again I don't know. Anybody have a resource that details what money the Rockets derive from China that other NBA owners don't have an equal share in?

So far we have Kevin Martin, Butler, and Iggy.
3 player that can play shooting guard. But I just don't reallly see how you do not like Iggy deal. Iggy is young, guard who defends, MOST IMPORATANT ----> HE STAYS HEALTHY. Both Kevin and Butlers gets injured almost every season. I don't want any fragile players from now on. I want someone who can stay health and contribute unlike players who misses like 30 games and gets paid 10~20 million for not even playing. Our goal should be get younger and get healthy players.

I see many people saying that Iggy is not a franchise player. But lets be real, it is going to be tough free agent class in 2010, everyone is going after bosh, amare, wade, lebron. Its going to be tough. I think its better to trade before the deadline while we can get some value in return. !

Yea I know we have some Chinese advertisers in the arena which we wouldn't have without Yao. Also another way it makes us money, essentially, is that a lot of Rockets players get Chinese shoe contracts. Chuck Hayes has his own shoes....... Thats money that we don't have to offer players that they still make.

That is a good point, but I don't think it equates to bags and bags of cash. I suspect that hard dollars to Les' bottom line from Yao Ming being a Rocket is overstated. I think the Rockets would probably derive more money from being a consistent contender for the title, but that is just a theory on my part not being privy to the Rockets' finances. Is it worth signing him to a 4-5 year max contract extension? They will have to make that decision sometime before the 2011-12 season. Which is the bigger risk: taking a Bosh now and signing him to a 5 year max contract or hoping Yao delivers on his potential and can stay healthy?

Yes, we can. The prohibition against trading successive first round picks only applies to FUTURE picks. Now that the 2009 NBA Draft has come and gone, the Rockets can trade their 2010 pick.

I don't know how true this is but I've read that he owns a company/factory that makes licensed NBA merchandise for the chinese market.

[rquoter]Chad Ford says the Suns and Sixers are discussing a deal involving Amare + Andre + Sammy.

But Amare might not want to come here.

Ford ranks Iguodala as the fifth likely player to be traded.

And Dalembert as the tenth likely.

Here's a few excerpts from ESPN's Rumor Central:

Apparently the Suns like the Sixers offer.

If the Sixers are thinking about trading for Amare just to let him walk, they should stop. Why not trade Andre and Sam for another expiring like Howard and at least get a couple picks or talent back?

Seems like conflicting reports to me. One source says the Sixers are "hot after Amare" and the other says "it's the Sixers that are holding up the deal." Yet it sounds like Amare's the one holding up a deal?

Just can't see Amare to Philly happening in its current form, to many variables in motion here. I know you and a lot of people on the board don't like this idea but Amare not opting out I think puts the Rox in play. This is the kind of deal that Morey has done, pulling a fast one out of left field while not giving up a lot in the process. PHX is scarred stiff that Amare won't opt out and thus will lower its asking price thus the Iggy/Dalmbert rumors and also Barbosa being in play as well.

I personally think Amar'e is pulling a fast one on Phoenix and pulling a T-Mac :p and blocking a trade to Philly. Easy decision on his part. Hmm Philly or Phoenix, Philly or Phoenix? Nevermind Kerr, I'll won't opt out. ;) I still think he'll opt out. And I know trades can go unmentioned and happen(most Morey trades have) but I don't see Houston acquiring STAT, let alone being mentioned as a place for his services..

Um... well are u proposing trading Yao right now? I mean he clearly is one of the best center in NBA right now. Besides as a most of the GM agree with me here Yao is one of the best marketing player in terms of selling rocket's merchandise... but yea he has problem with his healthy, but if you look at the NBA right now it is very hard to find healthy center unless u r Dwight Howard with mutated Genes

I'm going to mad as hell if Phoenix get Iggy and Dalembert and the 76ers have offered them for Tracy. Get it done now Morey !! We can finally get some size, a mobile back-up center for Yao, a great shot blocker and one who can score on top of that a great SG who can play defense and get to the basket at will.

    Iggy is overpaid.

Once again hold onto T-Mac or just trade him for more expirings just so we don't look like complete tools with our former stars.

Wait until after next season so you can see how Yao recovers then make your moves during the 2011 free agency.

If Philly wants Amar'e for his expiring why don't we make it a three way.

    Phoenix sends: Amar'e
    Phoenix receives: Iggy and Dalembert

Houston sends : Tracy McGrady, Kyle Lowry and Brian Cook
    Houston Receives: Amar'e

    Philadelphia sends Iggy and Dalembert
Philadelphia receives: Tracy McGrady, Kyle Lowry and Brian Cook

Then make another trade involving the sending out of one of our PF's and maybe Battier for a scoring SG or SF. Maybe Rudy Gay?
