is this still news? we all know the knicks want mcgrady and his contract in the hopes of making the playoffs.

morey is just waiting for better offers. but this is a good fallback plan depending who the knicks are willing to give up.

Why not the more assets you have the better.

I'd lose all respect for DM if he pulls the trigger on some of these awful deals. Hell, he'd lose respect for himself.

    No one out negotiates DM.

This knicks trade seems to be better than others since we can get small expiring contracts from a big one, then Morey can easily use those as for next trades. Other trades are likely more risks.

Outside of draft picks, I don't really see anyone that will be huge upgrades from the Knicks. Perhaps David Lee but I'm iffy on that too (depends on how much we have to pay him to resign)

I rather let T-Mac's contract expire and look into a S&T or see what's available in the free agency market than a trade with the Knicks.

DMorey already has said he doesn't think the Knicks are a good fit or good trading partner, and a deal wouldn't be likely with them. Paraphrasing there but was something along those lines.

Morey could always turn back around and strike a deal with them but I don't think he will unless he gets what he wants. Not sure if its Toney Douglas AND Jordan Hill or Toney Douglas OR Jordan Hill along with others to meet the requirements of a trade.

Why, or why, would we want Toney Douglas? I can kinda sorta understand Jordan Hill -- despite our PF logjam -- but Toney Douglas?

I think there is a good chance they will either trade or not be able to resign Scola. In that case we need a backup for Landry.

You can get Kwame Brown, he was the #1 pick.

    Just taking people's temperature here.

Assuming that all better deals fall through (people, PLEASE don't forget this and respond by saying "no way, we can get iguodala" or some crap like that), if you were the Rockets' GM or Les Alexander, what would it take in order for you to be willing to take back Jared Jeffries's contract ($6,466,600 this season, $6,883,800 next season):

Less 2009-10 salary to the point where the Rockets fall below the tax threshold without having to pay cash/picks to dump Brian Cook's contract?

Cuttino Mobley's expiring, 80% insurance-covered contract (which, if acquired at the deadline, would save the Rockets an additional ~$2.7M)?

    Jordan Hill?

    Toney Douglas?

The Knicks' 2012 first round pick, with some level of protection? (Keep in mind, this is the earliest possible first rounder that New York can convey at this point.)

The Knicks' 2014 first round pick? (If the 2012 pick is offered, the Knicks can't also trade their 2013 pick.)

    Wilson Chandler?

Now, we start to venture into the "Knicks probably won't part with this, even to dump Jeffries" category:

The Knicks' 2012 UNPROTECTED first round pick?

    Danilo Gallinari?

At some point, the Rockets would HAVE to say "yes" to a package including enough of those assets. That said, I doubt that the Knicks would ever offer enough to make Morey want to say yes.

By the way, I did not include David Lee or Nate Robinson on this list, since they are both "1-Year Bird" free agents and can veto any trade because they would otherwise lose their Bird rights. It is highly unlikely that Nate agrees to a trade to Houston (which already has Brooks and Lowry); and there is no way in hell that David Lee will agree to ANY trade out of New York this season, let alone a trade to Houston. He's not crazy. He wants more than the MLE in free agency.

Bima, of course a #1 pick would be nice but I would prolly do it for Hill. I know Jefferies is a liability on the offensive end but really like what he brings defensively. This is a last resort of course. Thing Is, I really don't want to help the Knicks open up more cap space

Believe it or not. Having Brooks and Landry doesn't mean the Rockets are all set. We have seen how the Rockets have struggled this past month.

They still need more talent and height. Rockets need a defensive PF/C taller than 6'9", especially when Yao is on the bench or injured. David Andersen is too weak to defend. Chuck Hayes should be limited to only certain matchups.

I don't see the need for CDR with Budinger though.
