more aggresive means to take the ball to the rack and stop settling for the jumpers he needs to get that in his mind!!!
And how is he going to take the ball to the rack when the D is giving him the jumper.thats in foul wanting to happen.
he is trying to do too much, he never been in this situation before, the guy is not scorer he is all around player, he is still young and he has alot to learn...
Maybe the reason why ariza doesn't want to drive a lot more and is taking three pointers instead is because he is a poor free throw shooter. Attacking the ring means he will be shooting more free throws. But at the same time its impossible for him not to improve his free throw shooting if he is putting enough time to practice shooting those free throws.
attacking the rim "consistently" means you need to have decent handles. he doesn't. the poor ft shooting probably is also another factor, which is a great point you bring up. but being aggressive can be so many things. it's not just scoring/shooting. it could mean cutting, running more, crash the offensive boards more... parking at the 3pt line and jacking up 6-7 3s a game is not being aggressive. anybody can do that.
The coaching staff and Ariza along with T-mac & Artest have a similar problem: - don't know how to stop telling themselves and others not to shoot threes
Ariza’s job on the Lakers is to defend and shoot threes. Too bad he lost his touches with the expanding role. He needs to practice hard with his freebies and three points shooting (Heck the whole team needs to practice on that). Taking to the rack is no good if you can’t make the free throws.
HAHAHA Ariza Sucks Hairy balls!! That's how much I hate this dude.. http://www.nba.com/playerfile/trevor_ariza/career_stats.html check out this stat: Ranks #3 in the NBA in Three-Point Field Goal Attempts (276) Yet the dude hits 30% of it? 30% OMG that is worst than Tracy McLady!!! Dude You Fu@#$@g suck at the 3... Attack the damn basket.. The worse thing for me is when looking at his career which spans several season is that he should actually be a better FG% shooter but for some reason he is shooting below 40% for the 1st time in his career. One advice Stop shooting the 3 ball!
I would love to see a season breakdown of Ariza's 3-point shooting this year and be able to compare his 3-point shooting percentage on catch-and-shoot 3-point shots isolated from his 3-point shooting percentage off the dribble.
i don't even think he should attack the basket more, considering teams are just gonna start fouling him since he's only 65% from the FT line
Wow. What a correlation. 2.5% of the variance explained by his taking more shots. Yeah...that's the ticket.
I don't know if I am reading it correctly. It seems that the number of shots he takes has no correlation with his efficiency. Anyway, I don't think Ariza's problem is his shooting, or even his shot selection. It's his overall decision making. Everybody says he needs to shoot less 3s and go more to the rack. But he gets into trouble lots of times trying to drive but running into traffic and not knowing what to do. He just can't seem to understand what he can and cannot do. And he is a very poor decision maker on the fly. Some people compare him with Alston because of his fg%. But I think he is more like Francis without Steve's physical talent. His brain is a lot slower than his body.
He's just a very limited player. Period. It's like trying to run your offense through Chuck Hayes. Hayes does a couple of things very well but he's not going to break down the opposing defense. Ariza is the same way. He's a terrible shooter, but he plays so many minutes that it's vital he take enough shots to make a few in an attempt to keep the defense from sagging off of him on to Brooks and others. Defenses are already inviting Ariza to shoot as often as he'd like.
Hit it on the nail, Ariza is not a creator. He needs to be set up on the receiving end of the offense. He forces things too much. And that is absolutely not his game. He can't dribble, he's not a good shooter off the dribble. and has very little court vision/ playmaking ability off the dribble. He needs to fall back and become more of a spot up shooter, pump fake and drive off the pass. That's more of his game. You can't just let some one expand their role when they don't go in the gym and actually expand their game.
Very little, if any. I would point out that his 6 worst shooting games came when he got between 11-15 shots/36 minutes. He averages about 17. But I think he just feels more confident in shooting (and his teammates look to him more) when he's shooting well.
