Being from the South, we have certain slangs, terminology, regional sayings, colloquialisms, etc. that ONLY a fellow Southerner would understand. Or even just hanging with friends, we use "terms/slang" to communicate with each other. Just wondering what other slangs, etc. do you use(wherever you are living) that you can share with us. So people from wherever, New Yorkers, Cali, whether you are brown, black, white, yellow, blue, red, pink, etc.: let us know what "terms" you're using! BUT, don't forget to give a definition of what it means. For example, down South, we use these terms/sayings quite a bit: 1. Baller(balla) - a person who has lots of $$$ and spends it on women, cars, clothes, jewelry, etc. 2. Crouch Rockets - racing motorcycles 3. A hitch in your giddy-up - walking funny, walking with a limp 4. Jelly - a nice, round, juicy booty 5. Assman - a proctologist
"Lick them thang" - Eating pie. "You know how we do" - Yes, that is our style. "Big ups" - I give respect to... "We wreckin' shop ya hurd?" - We are good "Sippin on that sizzurp." - This concoction of codeine and cola pleases me. "Man that foo to' up from the flo' up" - I am not fond of that fellow.
i don't wanna be a playa no mo' uh oh... i'm starting to notice i frown at the end of every post! NOOOOOOO!!!!!
Crotch rocket is I belive universal Also Balla, but I think I would laugh at you if you used it Big ups is old school, but I guess most things start in cultural centers like NY and spread out. also most of this stuff is part of pop culture and has spread out thanks to music and MTV we all know the NY style, the LA style, the atlanta, Louie, etc (like in that song) as far as smaller non pop culture sayings all used in my part of the world (eastern Long Island, NY) *note some of these phrases arnt used anymore as phrases come and go so fast when you live in the NY area. Buck nutty- as in getting buck nutty.- getting crazy, or wild. criminal- used in the same was as buck nutty- I use this term alot Talent- used as a hot chick has talent. some talent just entered the room-I also use this term alot, but suspect is is used all over the place limber- simular to talent, but more of a description that the girl has talent, and could be um les say sexually gifted. aka sexual, or sexy, or an active love maker. Broken- often used to describe ones self in a hung over state. heard on monday when dragging ass at work. exercising- "we were exercising last night" having the sex. "I want to exercise with her" Its hard to think of slang. maybe I will come back here and type in more after im sure I will be using them tonight with my boys. one of my favorite bands are playing tonight. Peace
Someone farted on a bus that I was riding in London, and the guys behind me (high school age) asked who let the "pooey reek". BTW Esource, I don't think your examples are regional. In fact, they are about as funny as a turd in a punch bowl.
Big ups started way back in the reggae scene...then Lennox Lewis started using it, then Rome started, and now it's pretty common. I'm from Houston...you know, where I'm from (Houston, northwest side), so I'm from Houston.
I've heard those in my time in Houston but here's some new ones, or old ones, used frequently here in Chicago: Phat - Cool Bogus - wrong, false, not in it's true form, bizarre Garbage - (See Bogus) For Sure (Fa Sho') - Indeed, truely For Certain (Fa Certin') - (See For Sure) BTW, i think I started this one back in Houston. I used it all the time in AOL IM.
Im stealing Voice of Reason's sayings. Actually some of em are stupid, but I like "Man, baby girl's got talent." Nice, real nice. That's VERY funny!
Brockman: Scientists say they're also less attractive physically, and while we speak in a well-educated manner, they tend to use lowbrow expressions like, "Oh, yeah?" and "Come here a minute." Homer: Oh yeah? They think they're better than us, huh? Bart, come here a minute. Bart: You come here a minute. Homer: [shakes fist] Oh yeah?
How 'bout these: 1. Tha block is hot - the neighborhood is quarantined/lockdown by the police looking for someone 2. ghetto bird - a police helicopter 3. On tha grind - working hard, pounding the pavement to become sucessful 4. sippin' on lean - drinking some type of alcoholic beverage 5. candy-dipped - brand new paint job(cars, trucks, m-cycles), usually bright colors: apple red, green apple, tangerine, blue steel, etc.
um, in my estimation, that is a national saying correct me if I am wrong I so mis the 80'S ok, maybe I don't hey, where in across fron 110th st. he should be able enough to add an ounce of our regional nomenclature must be a hot night in the city PEACE
You're probably right. I've lived in H-Town most of my life so I really can't say what sayings other regions are using. It's interesting to hear what "terms" others are using though.....
Born in Houston so everyone up here thinks I sound funny but a Philly favorite is "Holla at me" which I think means call me or something like that.
I remember when my friends and I used to say 'cowabunga' all the time. It drove our teachers made, that they actually BANNED us from saying it!
