Yao's contract expires next season. Will he return for that season, retire between now and then, request a trade, sign a new contract with the Rockets? What? Of course, no one knows, but it might be fun to speculate. Personally, I would be very cautious about signing Yao to a long term contract. A max, long term contract is out of the question. I would see how Yao does if he returns and I would wait late into the season before making a decision.

I tried to create a poll, but I didn't mark the box correctly, sorry.

it's illogical to give yao more than 8-10 mil a year when his contract ends. it's inevitable that he'll suffer another injury. and even if he doesn't, he's not going to be able to carry the load and the minutes that he once was able to.

but you still would want to keep him b/c for 20-25 minutes a game, he will still provide a low post presence offensively and defensively.

    1. Yao should opt out of his contract and sign for mininum
    2. Les should donate 17M to a charity of Yao's choice (under the table)
    3. use the cap room and sign Lebron/Wade and re-sign Scola and Lowry and even better Landry
    4. make Yao's contract decision according to his health and performance in summer 2011.

Thats what I'm thinking. Yao should do us a favor and opt out and let us sign people or make that iggy trade then resign for the amount listed.

Re sign him to a 5 yrs @ 11 million then once that contract ends(Yao 35 yrs old at the time) re-sign him to a 3yr @ 4 million(and he retires a rocket  ala mutumbo, and we retire his number)

Since Yao is a 10- millions players in some poeple's mind, why don't let Yao go?! He will get a max contract somewhere else.

I think yao would be more than willing to opt out and let us sign him for less if he knows we can get a very good swingman out of it. Hopefully he considers it.

I think that depends on what the Rockets do between now and the summer.

I absolutely believe that Yao is in the Rockets plan 2010/2011. As far as Yao signing a deal for a cheaper contract... stranger things have happened. i would be surprised but not shocked.

no doubt ,yao will resign the contract with rox,he is such a loyal person .

for the salary,i do agree 8million for 3~4 years is enough.u don't know when he would get injuried again.but seriously his presence is a great threat offesnsively,we need to admit his contribution for us,and show our respect for the pay for him.

    the question is

if some other teams offer Yao the max (quite possible), should the Rockets match?

    How foolish.

You honestly think teams are stupid enough to throw 15+ mil at a player that doesn't even play  ? Let him walk, i could care less. He's run this franchise to the ground with the likes of mclazy.

no, paying Yao max will keep this team on the hamster wheel until he retires or breaks down.

Why some people fail to understand that puzzles me to no end. To keep believing in something after 6 or w.e failures is just ignorance., and I just get the feeling that some people have Yao's agenda more than that of the team's in mind.
