I think it's a fair question to ask since the players' union blocks all and any attempt to institute any type of drug testing! There's no proof becuz you can't prove anything without a blood/urine sample and that ain't gonna happen anytime soon. So who do you think is on the "juice"? My number one suspect is: "Slamin' " Sammy Sosa - "I'll be the first in line to get tested." Yeah, right!
Yeah, I think that Sosa's on steroids. I mean up until a few years ago he was never a huge home run hitter, and he only weighted like 160 in his rookie year. No he weights around 230 lbs.
Brett Boone and Sosa are the obvious two. Bonds is probable but he always had good power but now he just added 15 pound sof mass, which could be possible, but I find it unlikelyu for someone his age. Also another possibility I think is Clemens. Between his Roid rages and how fit he still is it makes me wonder. I know he has an awesome off season work out routine, but he seems like he is all about winning and would risk his health. After that look at a lot of the mid-level teams and players (I really don't think many elite players use them and think it's a lot more of the guys trying to stick in the majors). I watched a Twins game last week and either they are a team dedicated to the weight room or there may be a lot of juice flowing in the room. Of course they have a young roster and I am not very familiar witht ehir players so possibly they just drafted larger players.
Sosa, without a doubt. Even if he tested negative, I would be skeptical. Bonds maybe? What kind of guy peaks at 37? Also, it wouldn't shock me if alot of journeymen type players were on it as well. Caminiti's 50% number sounds about right.
I have my doubts about Baggy too. I can't help but think about all these homerun totals nowadays. Should an "asterisk" be put beside any HR records in this era becuz of possible steroid involvement?
Bagwell. Steroids? No way. He said that he doesn't take steroids, and that he got big from lifting weights like crazy and drinking protein drinks all the time. He even said that he can't get any bigger than he is now. He has always been about as big as he is now, even in college. He doesn't take steroids.
Every player says they dont take them, and u cant really lift weights like crazy, cuz u cant really lift everyday unless one day u do uper body stuff then the next day u do leg stuff, but most people do everything in one complete workout, takes a day off, then does another complete workoff, ect. So he wouldnt really be lifting weights like crazy IMO. Thats just my opinion.
No way my man! Pull out your old baseball cards of Baggy as a rookie! He definitely is not(or near) the same size now as he was back then. There's been a BIG change!
bagwell is not the same as he was in college or his first 2 years. but, this isn't some rapid growth over one season. he consistently trained his body over the last decade to gain mass. he has always hit for power and his numbers have been consistently strong every year. he didn't jump from 20 to 65 hrs, he averages around 40. if bagwell took roids i can't believe that he wouldn't contend for 60+ every year. bonds is the same situation, though last year at his age theres plenty of room for questioning. maybe he just started? but take away last season and he's still one of the greatest hitters ever. guys sho are suspect: sosa, gonzo, boone.
After all our disagreement in the Aggie football thread...here we agree. Not only that but Baggie's facial features have changed over recent years. This is a warning sign that somebody is dabbling in human growth hormone. Oh and you're right...no way D Ward is juicing.
I'm going to preface this by saying I have no proof whatsoever, just on hunches and inconsistencies in their stats... I would guess that Dante Bichette roided up, but may have stopped? How about Luis Gonzalez? Brady Anderson seems a likely candidate due to the wild fluctuation in his power numbers.
I'll throw Eric Gagne's name into consideration here. Last year the guy was horrendous, now he's throwing mid 90's and leads the league in saves. fishy. Clemens Sosa not sure on Barry Bonds -- he claims to be using Creatine and does have a monster workout program in the off-season Alan Zinter? Just guessing here, probably unfairly, but look at his situation. 34 years old. 14 years in the minors. Last chance to make it. He is very strong, and I have absolutely no basis to make the claim that he's on roids, but if blindly given that description, one would be suspicious.
Berk has too much body fat to be all juiced up. Esource-- I won't forget about our friendly little wager.
i'm gonna put down Brady Anderson... remember his 50hr season back in the mid-90's? of course his production has plummeted since, but i've ALWAYS had a sneaking suspicion that Brady was juiced for that 2-3 year time period... he probably gave it up afterwards... perhaps noticing some side effects?
I think Gonzalez is a pretty good choice, especially with the Houston/Caminiti connection (or were they never on the same team...don't know). I think we should assume every baseball player is on steroids until the ones that are not come out and condemn those that are.
