I think if you give him a chance and work with him it CAN work out. Perferct example=Theo Ratliff. Nobody thought he woudl be any good a few years ago either. He was solely a defensive player. Now, his defense has improved while his offense has moved forward leaps and bounds. IF Cato could develope to just that we would be good to go.

I Agree with JayZ750... It may be to early to hit the eject button on cato.. With a good summer program I think he can take his game up a few more notches. According to him he plans to spend up to three months working we CD and or Hakeem:

You can't teach size and Cato has that size.

You can't teach athleticism and Cato has that athleticism.

    You can improve your rebounding.
    You can improve your shot.
You can improve confidence with experience.

Look Cato needs to do 3 things to become as we know here in Houston a legitimate center to Rocket fan standards. Cato must improve the Rebounding. Improve his shot, mostly his turnaround. Also he needs to improve his confidence therefore reducing the wildness that we saw last year; hence leading to abscentee play in the game by him.

Is it too soon to give up on the potential that Cato can and likley will bring to this team in the future while the Rockets do not seriously expect to contend for another few years?

An Ideal Cato fits this team even better than a Shaq would. By this I mean that Cato would not take anything away form Francis like Shaq would; and Cato would only benefit the team with his athleticism and precense in the middle.

I think that you have to look at it this way. There is nobody out there that we can get that is better than cato. I say we give cato a shot until we find another center that can replace him and who is a better b-ball player. But for right know we have to stick with cato cause hes the best outside of all the dominate centers around the league that you all have named

I agree with Miggidy. Cato is a great fit for this team. I was watching tapes of the Lakers, Jazz, and Blazers games that we won, and it seemed like our team had all of the necessary pieces. Cato played with heart in those games, but i did not see the ones that weren't on national tv. For those of you knocking his rebounding, its because he tries to block all those shots! He blocks or alters a great number(when he is playing well). if he just stood under the basket, like Pig Miller for instance, he would get a lot more. Zo doesnt get many rebounds. I say let the shot blocker contest shots and let Kenny rebound the misses.

The Sabonis effect? That happened mostly because Sabonis could shoot jumpers, make Shaq play defense, and tire him, imo.

"You can't teach size and Cato has that size.

But more imortantly you can't teach to play with heart. Most of you seem to think that he will get better with expereince, but if you don't play hard all the time it's tough to get better. Yeah Cato may have had 10 good games last year but if you are willing to settle for a player that shows up every 8 games, I hope we are all willing to play this lottery game for many years.

I would much rather have a hard working player with less skills, than a lazy, overpaid one. For most of this year I think the team was more effective with pig at C. Even though he can't block a shot, at least he plays hard. Look at Indiana. Smits is a tall player, yet Davis matches up better with Shaq because he plays hard, not because he is real big. One of the best players to match up against Shaq was Rodman who is half the size of Shaq. The reason he could match up wasn't his god given size, but his heart.

Bottom line is Cato is either:
    A) Lazy
    B) Bored
    C) Totally Confused
    D) All of the Above

Even if you say he is confused, think about it. He should have learned something sitting on the Portland bench. He should have at least learned it isn't fun, and to stay off the bench you play hard.
