What big name in 2011? People keep tossing things around like we can get a LeBron/Wade/Bosh this summer (we have no chance even with McGrady's contract off the books...not enough cap space). Then, they say next year (who's a FA next year)? Seriously. You take Iggy (the best player out there that we can realistically get). I highly doubt any player we can get in FA (realistically...which means no Wade/LeBron/Bosh) will be better than Iggy.

How does that work? If we let McGrady's contract expire, we have ~7million in cap space to re-sign Lowry/Scola with. In this scenario, we're not letting it expire but instead adding Caron Butler. Caron's contract is greater than 7 million, so essentially we would only have the MLE as we'd be above the cap. How do you add Scola/Lowry in that scenario without getting into the Luxury Tax?

People are talking about trading Scola to the Wizards, but all we get is Butler/Haywood/Mike James back. Some ridiculous trade ideas in this thread. Iggy is young, stays healthy (unlike Butler), and has a better all around game, plus a higher ceiling.

But even then, you proved my point completely. Iggy gives us a better chance if we're talking about just Yao-Iggy or Yao-Butler. We aren't even mentioning the other pieces on our team.

I wouldn't even give up that much, Budinger's potential is just too high IMO, plus he's still going to be playing cheap basketball for a while. The asset we should give up is the one we don't plan on re-signing, Lowry or Scola. I wouldn't mind seeing Landry starting, with Anderson backing up the 4 and 5 with spot duty. The Rockets also look to be grooming Conroy right now just in case Lowry isn't in our future plans...

There are some attractive free agents in 2011, but most would command more than the MLE and/or stay with their team.

That's not what I'm asking. As it stands now, McGrady's expiring contract gives us ~7million in cap room. We would then need to use that ~7million on re-signing Scola/Lowry.

Trading for Caron Butler puts us on the hook for a salary above ~7million next year. In other words, the ~7million in cap room we'd have if McGrady expired would no longer be there. We'd only have the MLE, as we'd be over the cap.

The question was, how do we re-sign Scola/Lowry in this scenario? How much room would we have between our team salary and the luxury tax? The luxury tax was the main reason Bima was against trading for Dalembert, so I'm wondering how much room we'd have if we did the Washington trade. We have Scola/Lowry's bird rights IIRC, so we can still sign them, but I'm unsure of how much wiggle room we'd really have.

There is no doubt talks will extend to Jamison, Lowry, Cook.

No trade will put this team over the top that is articles. You have to be a realist. Yao at best has 2 good seasons left. Iggy has 5 years attached and it not enough to carry the load. Just look at who they are after, non of those players have what it takes, so you go with the players who have the smaller risk-reward attached to it for the short term and better bargain. Iggy is not Scottie Pippen it's not even close. He was a MVP canidate when Jordan retired and i don't see Iggy even being close to that and being the player to pick up the load when he is out, look he can't even get the sixers to the playoffs.

So with the idea of establishing a Big 3 of our own to go with LA, Boston, etc., here's a 4-team deal.

McGrady, Cook, Jermaine, and Dorsey to Washington.

    Jamison to Cleveland.

    Illgauskas, Landry to Phoenix.

    Butler, Amare, Javale to Houston.

Washington buys out McGrady so he can go to Cleveland. Phoenix buys out Illguskas so he can go back to Cleveland.

Washington does this to rebuild. Cleveland does this for obvious Championship aspirations. McGrady agrees to the buyout to go to Cleveland and play for a ring and a new contract. Hoston does this in hopes of competing in the playoffs this year and in hopes of luring Lebron or DWade to Houston in tandem with Yao and Amare in our own version of a Big 3. Phoenix---they will probably need both Cleveland's and Houston's first rounders and some other asset from somewhere to do this deal.

I like this trade, but don't know if Washington will let go of a prospect with such high talent like Javale McGee...

A couple questiona, I know Les & Daryl end up making the finacial deal that can help the team, but does the coach also get a say, or a opinion, and nothing against either player, but instead of Scola, could we do try and deal Andersen & Taylor? Would those 2 salaries even add up to Scola's contract?

It doesn't necessarily have to be a free agent in 2011. You never know who's going to end up on the trade block. Maybe New Orleans gives up on Chris Paul and starts over, or something like that.

With Iggy, you are banking on him and Yao winning a championship with the rest of the guys we have now (and potentially less depending on our willingness to pay the luxury tax). We are handcuffed if we take on Iggy and re-sign Yao...you better be damn sure he's got what it takes, and I'm not. His contract just doesn't match up with his talent right now.

If we give up Scola or Landry in trade, we need to be getting a PF in return that can be inserted into the rotation. At this point, I don't think we should be counting on Andersen to give us serious minutes.

Do you smoke?? why would anyone trading for mcgrady buy him out once they have his expiring? its only 2 months left why not stay with it?

Last I would like to know how can those guys be on the Rockets when they Rockets are already over salary cap? This is not a realistic thing. Your dream roster is fantasy guy
