Cool now please give us an idea of what his FG% would be without the big fella in the middle getting all the attention??

Yao last year fine but no Yao and hmmm lets see how he fairs out.

I don't know, but I sure would like to find out, wouldn't you?

Because this year there are plenty of open shots with all the attention Landry and Brooks are getting.

A little surprising really...watch Ariza and how many wide open looks he gets, I would hope that Von would be able to take more advantage of them...and he is certainly the best at going to the hole from the wing position.

Anyway, if he signs, great....we could use him, IMO.

Well Yes and No.. IMHO if Von was to sign here then that means somebody would be leaving. You have C-Bud. Why sign Wafer??

Did you forget his last game wasn't a good one. Thinkin he is bigger than what he really is... I know thats your guy and all but what this team needs is someone who can put the ball in the basket. Von is a high energy type of guy who is suited for the bench.

Ariza takes those shots btw because he chucks them up himself. He has the green light. What makes you think von does. Von doesn't have the green light but he takes it up himself anyway.

I would think adding Von would make the ability to trade Shane or Trevor more of a reality.

Adding Von, means we are upgrading a position.....

For instance, you add Von, trade Trevor or Shane and start CBud.

    Something like that.

Like it or not Ariza is here to stay for awhile. How would it look like for him to sign this offseason. Get the contract he got then get traded away. That would make the Rockets organization suspect. Who is going to want to sign here if they feel like they can't make Houston a home.

I believe that is way overblown, people sign for money. And the organization will always look out for it's best interests.

But that would be Morey's call, if he believes that Trevor the asset should be traded, then fine by me.

If he believes that Shane the asset should be traded, ok too.

Anyone is expendable as long as the team gets better IMO.

Apparently, folk love the fro-hawk, no matter how many sources say, Wafer is injured and unlikely to play for a while.

Personally, I'd like to see Mike Harris instead.

He brings up a good point though; when was the last time a FA signed a contract and then was dealt that same season against his wishes? Can you name ONE? I say against his wishes because it isn't like Trevor is asking out -- I'm sure he'd rather not be traded.

Trading Ariza right now would be really dumb -- he was brought in for what our team will be next year and the years after. Trading him because he isn't a #1 or #2 option this year would just be silly; he wasn't brought in to do that. Let's see how Ariza fits into the grand scheme of things when we have a fully healthy and competitive team, then we'll be able to rate his production vs. his contract.

Exactly! There is too much knee jerking going on with Trevor and people aren't understanding that this JUST isnt about THIS YEAR alone. With our stars out, this year was suppose to be a failure, a "transition year", where we were expected to accomplish nothing. Every win we have this year and till the end of the season is a bonus. Morey has done a great job and assembled his cast of role players, who are basically playing this season waiting for the "big boys" to arrive. Who are they? Who knows, but there will be a superstar or superstars here next year and that's the been the plan since the day we knew we would have no Yao after already knowing there was alot of uncertainty surrounding T-Mac. No, the early stage of this plan (this season) is not pretty but you can't fast forward time and we're just going to have to deal with it.

Trevor is not a superstar, a #1 option, or even a #2 option, but he is young, athletic, and proven to be an effective role player for a championship team. His game is thriving off stars, something we dont have RIGHT NOW. People need to understand, that without our proven scorers everyone's volume of shots are going to go up, because SOMEONE has to take them. Trevor's definately struggled in this situation but give him time and give him a team he can excel in.

Money is only one factor. And given that competing offers in the NBA are probably not going to be that different for role player types, other things like having a reputable organization do make a difference when signing quality role players. A lot of the Rockets players make a point to mention how the front office in Houston is different then other teams.

So obviously, it is not impossible, but it IS a legitimate factor, I don't think you can just wipe it out.

I would not argue that, you guys are all making excellent points, but in this year, things are a little different.

We have a massive expiring contract in a year in which the cap is going to drop significantly, and to me that gets us a "Get out of jail" Free card.

So, I hear what you guys are saying about Trevor, and if he stays...fine...if he goes...fine....

My only point is that with this trading season, I would not be surprised if ANYONE was traded.

What makes you think he would not get open looks? Maybe he would hit all the open looks that Ariza consistently misses. Maybe he would finish those layups around the rim with dunks. From how he played last season, he could help this team tremendously.

Just because his play last season exceeded expectations to others doesn't mean he is going to have the same season he had last year. The Rockets are only one team out of 29 in the NBA. Why havent other teams make a offer to him??

You know I really don't care about the other teams, they have their own agenda and goals.

All I care about is that he fits in on the Rockets, and makes the team better...IF healthy.

He fills a significant weakness on our team, immediatly he would be the only true SG on the roster, and we need scoring from the wing desperatly.

Is he a perfect player, an all star, a guy to build around? No, but he is a guy that can be part of the equation, now and going forward when Yao gets healthy.

He makes the team better, and what would be so bad about that?

In last year's Rockets/Pacers "Mustache Crew" game, Yao left the game with a slight knee injury. Who stepped up? Wafer and Landry.

Yao makes the game easier, but in that game Landry showed he didnt REQUIRE Yao to play well. Wafer didnt either. Now look at Landry.

Wafer hit a clutch 3 in the closing seconds . (Yeah he got stuffed at the rim by Danny Granger later) But it was off an AGGRESSIVE dunk attempt, he and was scoring left and right just off his 1st step.

Whats Wafer to get without Yao, "only" 42% FG/34% 3PTers which would still make him the best SG option on the team?

But like every other transaction mentioned here, I'll believe it when I see it.

Ariza gets open looks because the defense chooses to let him shoot.

Probably wouldnt happen if someone shooting the ball would actually make it alot.

Man I really miss Von's power dunk. :( I'm so sick of the offensive awkwardness of Battier and Ariza.

You can sign him at the lowest cost right now.
