While he is most known for the ENDER Series.
However, I have recently enjoy several of his other books.
I am beginning to think that though the ENDER series is good
may not be his best work.

Red Prophet - Deals with the old west. Native Americans and Early Americas. It is still Science Fiction and a bit Historical Fiction. [a few historical figures make appearences.] Interesting Book

Pastwatch - This is set in the time of Columbus [who is a major character] Again it is Science Fiction and Historical Fiction. It held my attention. I wondered what would the end be.

Invasive Procedures - This is more modern times. Deals with genetic manipulation. I thought toward the end he lost some of the scientific continuity but over all a solid effort.

I have only read Ender's Game which was GREAT, but I could never get into any of the others in the series. I will have to look into these

In addition to the Ender series, I liked Empire, and also Magic Street and Invasive Procedures.

I'm also looking forward to the next book in the Ender/Bean saga, Shadows in Flight.

I've read Pastwatch. I also think it was quite interesting, although it didn't entirely live up to my very high expectations.

I liked Ender's Game, but I do think it is quite overrated.

I have read a lot of his work. I like Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow. Didn't really get into the Alvin series, or enjoy the rest of the Ender's series, even though I read them all.

    Also liked PastWatch.

I disagree w/ the OP, i think his best works was Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow.

RR, I think you might enjoy The Homecoming Saga, set 40 million years in the future. I won't attempt to describe it, but will say that I thought it very, very well done and a great read. There are 5 volumes. Check it out on the web. :)

I guess I'll add to the circle jerk, lol

Pastwatch was my first venture out of the Ender saga and it was well worth it. From then on I was hooked on to the Homecoming saga. That was also well worth it.

Without a doubt one of my favorite sci fi authors.

Homecoming saga was just okay, IMO.

Loved Ender's Game and the sequels, but I wasn't too crazy about the Bean books.

Mixed feelings on the author. I loved his Ender's Game/Speaker for the Dead(and subsequent sequels) books. But was basically it. Couldn't get into his other books.

I enjoy Card quite a bit. Pastwatch was an amazing novel, and Ender's Game is pure Sci-Fi crack. The rest of the Ender series, Alvin Maker, and the Homecoming series were all good. Not your boilerplate sci-fi.

Not trying to go off on a D&D tangent, but I just wish he would drop the anti-gay crusade he's on. It makes it more difficult for me to enjoy his writing when I know he's out actively campaigning to disenfranchise people.

I've only read the Ender/Bean books, but I really enjoyed them. (although I thought the Ender books got progressively worse after Speaker for the Dead)

After reading this thread, I'll probably check out some of his other stuff.

I've only ever read Ender's Game and Crystal City (i think that was what it was called)

Not really my sort of thing, but I enjoyed them both. I only read them because he was such a nice guy to us about his love for Firefly. Did an interview on the podcast and everything.

    Dunno anything about his politics.
[dunno how he looks even . . . pictures not on the books i seen]

Red Prophet is a part of the Alvin Maker Series I beleive.
I like Ender's Game and the series. Bean and Ender's brother Peter were some of the best characters.

I've read a good chunk of his stuff. He's super creative and a good writer. However, his best stuff is behind him. Pastwatch was good, and heavily influenced by his playing Civilization at the time. Ender's Game was ok, just not the greatest thing since biscuits and gravy. His Homecoming books get a little lengthy (the Earth series), but have a cool premise. My favorite of his series is the Alvin Maker series, the Red Prophet that RR mentions. It gets a little dull in the last two books..there are six in all, I think.

My favorite of his books is called Songmaster, which he wrote before Ender's Game. Awesome sci-fi book.

I feel that he's gone into Right-wing Robert Jordan mode. Milking his celebrity for cash and political stance.

I honestly believe that he's a closet homosexual trying to rationalize his way out of it. There is always some gay action in all of his books, if you pay attention. It will come out some day.

If you like his style of writing, you should check out Dave Wolverton/David Farland (same guy). Very similar writing style and creativity, not political or gay-angry.

Yeah, I keep trying to ignore that with regard to his novels. It's difficult.
