I am a danish basketball fan and I am thrilled to see that the biggest danish basketball talent ever has gone to the USA. His name is Christian Drejer and he 19 years old. He has joined the university of florida and since I know almost nothing about college basket I would like to know if it is a University with good traditions and which if any good players have come out of their program. Just to see how the americans rate him it is interesting to know if the university is a big one or if it is only a small university who has wanted him. By the way I think Christian Drejer will join the NBA in a year or two, and he will be the real deal in my opinion.
(Now, this comes from a Florida State student, so against Univ. of Florida, I may be a touch biased ) Florida is one of those up-and-coming basketball schools. They haven't been a perennial power for many, many years, but have been fairly good over the past 10 (back when Andrew DeClercq led the team into the Sweet 16) and even more so over the past 4 (in the era of Mike Miller and company). Their coach, Billy Donovan, has a penchant for recruiting the best players that he can, and with Lee and White there now - two of the better prospects from last year's class - UF has a bright future for the next few years. A solid program, even if it doesn't have the name recognition a Duke or UCLA might have. NBA Players from UF: Andrew DeClercq (Magic) Mike Miller (Magic) Other notable UF Grads: Udonis Haslem (Atlanta's summer team) Teddy Dupay (Orlando's summer team) Players to watch for: James White David Lee
What happened to the player dallas drafted in the first round and couple years ago from florida? i forget his name, but he was a freshman out of florida. donyell harvery? Don't forget that kwame brown signed with florida too. Brett nelson will also get a look next year. Also jason williams, was donavon's first player to make the nba. stra, Florida the last 5 year has been one of the top programs in the country. Like mfclark said they didn't really have a storied history before donavon (the coach) got there. He was one of rick pitino's assistants and, as you can imagine, runs a style very similiar to pitino's teams. From what i've heard drejer is a very good prospect and i'm sure he'll get plenty of playing time this next year. Look for florida to be a top ten team and a final four contender.
thanks for the great info. I feel good about Drejer deciding to go to Florida, he could have chosen the Euroleague where the topteams all fought over him but I think it was a brave decision to go the states and learn the american way of playing basketball. This is the way he has been playing all the time anyway with great athletisicm and speed in his game. So it should be interesting to follow his progress
After being drafted by New York and traded to Dallas, he went over to Denver in the Raef/Van Exel deal last season. He actually got consistant minutes when he was in Denver, putting up decent numbers.
the man was a mcdonalds all american / all around badass coming out of hs, to say he'll never get off the bench seems fallacious at best...
