Longterm can the rocket's style win?

It seems that conventional wisdom here is that halfcourt offense will win.
However the yao and tmac era failed with this style, while the suns got to the conference finals a few times.

I just don't think the way the rockets play can win over 82 games because they just expend too much energy.

Looking toward the future what will we build around: a halfcourt offense vs full court offense.

Everyone knows that when the playoffs start it turns into a half court game.

Considering the Adelman Kings got within a missed free throw of going to the NBA finals I would say yes.

Simple no. Run n gun as always proved to never work. Yes it's fun to watch but it never is a success. Just look at mike diatoni

It never worked for the Suns.

I think you need to have both if you want to be able to suceed in the NBA today. The playoff is a much slower game

Think players, not plays. The yao/tracy era failed because the teams 3rd scorer was rafer alston. A team has to be multiple. Teams must be able to execute halfcourt andget transition buckets. Every trip down the court in playoffs cant be like pulling teeth. The 94 squad was a good transition and halfcourt team because 1-5 would run the court and finish.

The Yao and T-Mac era failed due to injuries. Who knows what would've happened last year if T-Mac would've been healthy and Yao wouldn't have broken his foot. Who knows what would've happened the year before that when Yao was out and an injured T-Mac tried to get them past the first round. It may have been successul but I guess we'll never know.

    Their current style, no.

An up-tempo style? Yes. All the hype about the Suns embodying that style but still failing to make the finals would be great if they ever had a two-way team and not just offense. I'll go ahead and say it...you mix the '05-'07 Suns offense with a committed, disciplined defense and they would have won multiple titles. So if the Rockets add more offensive firepower AND improve on defense, yes, it can win. That's much easier said than done.

They also got screwed by horry.

The suns have had soo much talent, but they were just cheap.

Style has nothing to do with winning in the NBA its all about who you have on your team.

The Rockets team as it stands has a huge talent deficit to win it all, things may be different with Yao + whoever else added to the team. But even if you take the triangle offense and give it to the Nets they wouldnt win too many games because they just dont have the players to execute to the fullest.

Can this style of ball win though? Of course it can but without the right players it wont...these rockets dont have those players but clearly having a 24-21 record playing in this style is evidence that it does work.

It goes along with that saying "A coach is only as good as his players"

It's proven to win...like someone said the Kings where within a free throw and dirty officials from going and probably winning the Finals while the Suns where an Horry hip check from doing the same.

Adelman plays whatever style fits the players he has. He's not married to one style of play.

Not without really good passers and shooters like the kings had.

In the playoffs to win you need a closer who will get superstar calls.

In that other thread, Morey says that with Yao, they're within 5-6 games of being a contender. In other words Morey's stats indicate that Yao on the court is worth about 10 wins a season. All this team needs is another all-star player at the 2 or 3 worth about 5 wins in order to be able to win it all

I agree with that. Assuming a healthy Yao and one decent closer this team's style and roster is good enough "to win." does that mean they will win? no their style of play plus the pieces they have are enough to make a big run and have a legit chance for a championship
