The fact the UH was in the hunt for a player like Jeffcoat tells you that the program is headed in the right direction. Sumlin could leave after next year and that means his father could be gone too so it would have been tough for Jackson to commit to UH with that uncertainty. Still, UH has probably it’s best recruiting class in like 10 years. UT gets another great player and he will playing in the NFL in 3 years if he continues to develop.
U of H was mentioned in the mix because his dad is a coach there. Charlie P said yesterday that Jeffcoat was the only Rivals 5-star to sign with the Big 12; that 11 of the 26 had signed in the SEC including 4 at Florida alone. That sucks.
Rivals.com has UT's recruit class rated #2 in the country behind Florida, and this was before the Jeffcoat signing. http://www.rivals.com/ They are the leader in 4-star commits.
Like others have said, the fact that his dad is the D-line coach at UH was a huge factor. Not that UH hasn't made some strides in recruiting, but this can't be overlooked.
Only reason why UH was even considered was because of his dad being a coach there and being a former player there.
Hicks is committing as well today... Big day for Texas and they are getting a kicker from Louisiana that is currently committed to Arkansas but will visit this weekend as a formality to picking Texas.
UT is a top 10, if not top 5 football and basketball program. UH's only hope is the new DC and his dad were able to convince him to switch in the final hours.
Sort of off topic, but A&M surprisingly has the third best recruiting class in the Big 12 this year. (behind OU and UT)
did you actually attend UT? I remember someone asking that and then e-crickets chriping... Just curious. Anyways, great pickup for another kick-ass UT recruiting class
