Idiotic. Simply idiotic. Stern is an ass and a clown. Why he's in charge of our NBA remains a mystery to me. Without the fans, there is no NBA, no hundreds of millions to be made. No hobby for the Fat Cats. Well, the fans have never complained about players standing up, not that I have heard of. Probably a few corporate monkeys were mad because their view was obstructed for a few minutes. They can go kiss a donkey's behind.
I can understand where the NBA is coming from, fans that pay good money for those seats may miss parts of the game due to players standing.
These guys are constantly warned about this stuff and things like it. When they get fined, its because it is their fault and they had warning
Agreed. If I paid premium price for those seats, I wouldn't want Carl (as much as I love him) blocking my view.
Against the Bulls I was in section 118 on row B which is actually the first row in that section - it is to the right of the bench. I was sitting right next to the team doctors and the FCA representative. Landryt stood 5 feet away from me and completely blocked my view. Now I DID NOT complain. But he only stood there maybe 5-7 mins max!! I was actually happy because he was cheering Chuck out and actually point out the defense to him. I just stood up and watched. I'm sure the guys behind me were pissed. This is a ridicoulous fine. I wish the whole arena would stay standing until we scored the first basket. We used to do that a few years ago!
I guess the rule is because people can't see who sit behind the bench but why would the home fans complain about the home teams bench standing up. Also, if you get tickets behind the bench that's the downside but you do get closer to the player's than anyone so take the negatives with the positive. If I were the player and I wanted to stand up I would just pretend I'm going to the scorers table and cheer, lol.
What the hell is this? Players have been standing all season long in front of the bench and all of a sudden it's being enforced now?
If they were warned, then it's their own fault, but Landry said they had no warning. If the league cares about this so much, they'd better fine every single player and team who stands up, not just whenever Stern feels up to it.
Anyone watch the Dallas vs Phoenix game? The entire Suns bench was standing up during the game, so is that a fine for them as well?
Players were told at the beginning of the year not to do this so I guess the NBA considers that their warning. I don't have a problem with them fining Landry since they stated it at the beginning of the year. My problem is I don't think they are fining everybody for this. It's worse when a whole team is standing up. Maybe their is a certain amount of time you can stand before they consider it a fine.
What a stupid rule. Part of appeal of watching an NBA game live is watching the players on the sidelines reactions.
I don't think all the hate is just about the rule, but that it's not being consistently enforced. Consistently enforcing the rules with every single team, and player/coach. This simple thing is not possible in the NBA if the commissioner as well as every referee has an IQ below 100.
I think this is the reason behind the ire directed at most rules and infrations that arent enforced pretty equally.
