Just heard on ESPN radio that Gilbert and Javaris will both be suspended for the rest of the season without pay

Does this help the wizards in cap relief? Or do they just get $$ back straight up

My guess is the Wizards team salary is reduced by around $4.4 milliion.

That figure leaves them with a team salary of around $74.27 million.

They save about $13.2 million in total expenditures though($8.8 mil salary+$4.4mil luxury tax that doesn't have to be paid).

Even though they are still paying luxury tax, that's still 8-figures in savings.

Definetly fair. Personally I felt as if it should have been a full year suspension until around the All-Star brea next season, but David Stern wanted to mae sure there wasn't a messy appeal. If I were ever to take guns to my job(a bank) not only would I be fired, I would be arrested on top of never being able to get a decent job again. I say that athletes get off easy with stuff like this.......

This is harsh. It was an unloaded gun.

    They got off easy.

If I brought a unloaded gun to work, I would be fired immediately. :( That's harsh.

The suspension of Gilbert and Javaris should have been longer.

How much time are Arenas and Crittenton sentenced to? I thought there weren't any charges.

Neither of them has been sentenced yet. I think Crittenton will get probation because he was only charged with a misdemeanor as they couldn't find the gun. But Arenas plead guilty to a felony and is looking at a minimum of a 6 month sentence and a maximum of a 5 year sentence.

It doesn't sound like the Wizards will be voiding Arenas' contract and if they do they will be in for a fight. Billy Hunter basically said the player's union will "respond aggressively" to any attempts by the Wizards to further penalize Arenas.

It's not that bad. They can make a couple of moves to get under.

    Good point.

Considering the guns were in jest, the brawl is way worse. It's not even close. I'm not saying what Arenas did was right, but intent should be taken in consideration.

On a side-note...Arenas wants his contract voided
