Unless they get some size. And it's not like they can afford to wait until the trade deadline, they can't even put a Carmelo Anthonyless team away. The consensus is to not make a trade if it hurts the team. To wait until the deadline. Why? No Chris Paul can be had, no game changer can be had. Forget a scorer, get somebody at least 7 feet. The West is down this year, why wait to contend next year?
What about all the teams that cannot beat a Yaoless and Tracyless Rockets team... Obviously we have some holes this year but something will happen at the trade deadline, we as fans just need to let Morey make his move to take advantage of the drunkest teams.
On the block (notables) Warriors: A. Biendriens, Monta Ellis, Corey Maggette, Anthony Randolph, everyone else Wizards: Caron Butler, Mike Miller, everyone Bulls: John Salmons, Brad Miller Kings: Kevin Martin Phoenix : Amare Stoudamire 76ers: Brand, Iggy, Dalembert
Because making a trade that hurts the team isn't good for the team. That seemed kind of obvious to me. Now, I know what you mean, but we're not likely making a move that nets us a championship this year. Most possible deals are going to improve us this year at the expense of hurting our future flexibility to make moves. So, if you're going to make a move, whether it's now or at the deadline, it has to be a move that either wins a championship this year or a move that we're happy about next year. If we have no more ability to make moves because we filled our ledger to the margins with crappy contracts to give us an extra five wins this year, that's a failure, and that's why not just ANY move to improve the team now will do. I do agree that waiting until the deadline isn't necessary if the right deal comes along, but I strongly suspect it hasn't.
Because if they want to make a serious title run next year, or build around Yao, it will cost them. Whether it is taking on a bad contract now or later does not matter. They need someone to go alongside Yao, and right now that would be Stoudamire. Problem is he thinks he is a max type of player. Bosh is unattainable right now, and if you base your hopes on getting him this summer, than you are setting yourself up for failure. Remember Marcin Gortat? Couldn't even get him. A trade for this year and next has to be made. Otherwise free agency would be a waste. Butler/Haywood/Miller/Mcgee is a package worth trading for now. It may not be on the table right now, but the Wizards are having a fire sale, and you have to take advantage of that
So you want to destroy our future for a one-year title rush this year, which probably will end up in failure?
Out of curiosity, you know WHY Yao is out for a year, correct? He's undergoing surgery to make sure his foot doesn't get injured again, ala Illagauskas, who's been a pretty durable player as of late despite injury-filled years earlier in his career. I think we can reasonably count on a not very injury prone Yao in the future, providing that he doesn't play 40+ minutes.
I dont see the west being don this year. All five teams in our SW division are over .500 and there are only six teams in the entire eastern conference over .500. How is the west down?
The West used to be dominated by the Spurs, Suns, Mavs, Jazz, Lakers. Now one big move can put u up there with the Lakers
2010 DRAFT HERE WE COME!!! lol yeah we're pretty much done, this is all we're gonna see until ofcourse there is a trade making a substancial difference.
How is the west down this year? Three teams out of the top 8 in the west would still be able to land in the 5-8 slot in the Eastern conference. Also, just acquiring someone 7ft, won't matter if they can't play, heck Morey did that before the season started getting Andersen. McGrady's contract isn't some magic ticket people, and very few teams with someone worth picking up are likely to let that person go just for cap room in the summer. The best possible centers, we can realistically get at this juncture teams with little to no shot at the playoffs might be David Lee or Al Jefferson and a outside shot at getting Camby. That is it! Toronto are in a playoff run, so Bosh is off the table, same with Phoenix and Amare, despite the hype we aren't really in the best position to do much of anything in getting someone that can instantly help us out. Unless, SA starts feeling generous/stupid and gives us McDyess for a song, no trade probably sent our way at this juncture will actually give us anything worth a damn.
