It's not bad for the price, I don't know what I would do with it when I have an iPhone and a MacBook. I hope they announce something for the iPhone.

    It's priced $499 unlocked with WI/FI!

it cost more if you want 3G from AT&T and they said it's GSM ready so in time It can work on any network.

Yes, It will sell like Hotcakes.

I've never undoubtfully had to check wikipedia in class while taking notes, that's not something that has to be done in class. Heaven forbid there is a student without a laptop and having to use pen and paper. Give me a break, multi-tasking is convienient, but not necessary in most cases on this type of device. Most people tend to leave applications open wasting memory anyway.

    It's unlocked. AT&T isn't the "exclusive" carrier.

People are in need of a good mobile web surfing device with instant on capabilities. Opening a laptop while you are at the mall is gay. Many people don't even talk on their iphone. The sms and surf.

My only Apple product ever is an iPhone, but as someone who logs a bunch of hours in an airplane every year (and likes the idea of a wide variety of things to keep away the boredom), I see me getting one of these.

I also turn to the Internet several times a day just to research something.........anything--be it something important work-wise, or just something silly like "what was that actor's name in such and such movie?" It will be nice having a larger screened web browser handly lying around in the living room.

Then again, I might be somewhat influenced by my iPhone purchase. I had four blackberries prior to the iPhone, and I LOVED them. Once I had the iPhone for a week though, I never looked back..........even towards the blackberry's full qwerty keyboard. It still feels like the iPhone is about five years ahead (tech-wise) than any of the blackberries.

I do wish the iPad had RF technology though along with an app to be the ultimate universal remote for all of my HEC devices. THAT would be a killer app.

Are you going to be updating facebook while taking notes at the same time?
As long as the app saves your state and opens instantly, it doesn't matter.

so lets say i am writing an email i can pop over to check something on the web and back into the email without closing the program...downloading can be done in the background though

so for example if i am a college student in class

i cant be looking at the class website and be taking notes at the same time on it (sort of how windows/osx you have have multiple windows open resized to fit the screen proper) and on gtalk/aim/msn etc

i'd have to open safari to look at the website then close it and then open the notes app to take notes then close the notes app and open the chat app etc.

at that point besides being fancy i have a hard time seeing its real-world practical application

It will be an option, I'm sure, for students that own one to just buy an "e-book" for their iPad- just like a lot of textbooks are available online and cheaper as e-books now, but physical textbooks will be around for a while. Universities and their professors lag behind technology for the most part. It will be another generation of college professors before textbooks have a chance at being eliminated.

The price point is good because it's a tempting, "shiny" product that people will "ooh and awe" for, but ultimately I think it will still be a secondary/supplementary product for those who want an extra toy.

Even if they don't work on their computers, this thing apparently lacks multi-tasking ability and is relatively small in HD space. 16-64 GB is not much space for it to compete with laptops/pc's.

Add in 3G if you want halfway decent on-the-go Internet speed (+$150).

Add space if you want something that can hold anything decently large. (+$x)

And data plan for that 3G. (+$30/mo)

    Add app costs. (+$x)

The $499 price point is VERY deceptive.

Multitasking is why windows machines run like crap for most users after a year or so. Its because every app installs stuff that runs in the background.

This is my table top computer.

I have my laptop for work and travel. My n900 for multitasking and phone calls. I have my imac in my bedroom.

all I need this for is simple home and light travel things.

they will jailbreak this thing before I get it so i'll find my "apps" somewhere cheaper
