I also tie Charles Barkley directly to Clutch (see earlier post). I was like "WOW" he got to meet Barkley and interview the team during training camp. Things like this made me go to Clutch City (aka Clutchfans). The Barkley days were also the early days of Clutchfans. Sadly Charles Barkley is only known as the guy who bet Yao wouldn't score 20 points in a game. If you really really think about it, Yao was on a team with Francis and Cuttino who had the ball like 90% of the time in that offense, so Charle's logic wasn't really that off.
barkley singed a ball for me one time at allen samuels chevrolet. pretty cool guy from my experience.
Barkley is the reason I have a post game today! Def one of my fav players of all time. Too bad they invented a rule to stop his post up
My God, it's amazing how much I miss the NBA on NBC. Now we have freaking Pussycat Dolls, and Mariah Carey doing intros with players dancing the mamba or some crap.....where's the intensity? Where's the fire? It was intros like this that got me ramped up to watch the game....they were raw, and they let the game itself do the endorsing. Now everything has to be computer-generated effects, with stupid little jingles. I hate what the networks have done to the game.
You must be one of those people who thought Yao is"bust" back in the day. The truth is, despite all the weakness yao has, he is great offense player. You could wonder how many point a game Yao could score if he played 90s.
did you even watch basketball when Steve Francis and Cuttino Mobley played? do you understand the math I put down on you? the offense was built around Steve Francis and Cuttino Mobley getting the ball like 90% of the time, which means 10% of the time goes to other teammates. you remind me of a Pryuen era YOF, defending Yao for no apparent reason. We defeated the Pryuen era YOFs and we shall crush the Jersey Shore TOFs too. 99ers rule pal.
+1 agree.. when i saw that NBC intro video it bought back all sorts of emotions and nostalgia .. When that intro started i was all pumped to watch the game.. the intensity and nervousness i felt and wanting the win so badly.. now its just like .. mehhhh who cares... .
oh i forgot to add that Barkley was one of the reasons I became a Rockets fan.. as you can see from my handle.. sunsrocketsfan.. i was actually a Barkley fan and followed him over and I have stuck since..
Barkley is a character. I remember he took a major pay cut to play in Houston. It sucks we couldn't help him get a ring.
For a guy that was going to be a free agent the following season, the rockets paid way too much for him even though the Suns was too stupid to know how to use Horry and Cassell.
Couldn't agree more. I hated that trade. Every time, the Barkley trade is brought up, the customary "we beat the Sonics with Barkley" comments show up. Yet, I don't really get what was accomplished by beating the Sonics. What about Barkley's atrocious defense when it came to defending Malone or the other power forwards? Instead of devising a strategy to combat the Sonics' defense, Rudy and company gutted the team for Barkley. Maybe the coaching staff should have recognized the Sonics would camp on the left block and wait on Hakeem. Yet they kept running the offense through Hakeem on the left block. No high post to get him away from the zone. No adjustments at all. Finally, Rudy should have known, Barkley and Hakeem liked the same spots on the floor. So, we get Hakeem deferring to Barkley or Clyde, Hakeem and Barkley taking turns on offense.
Does anyone remember Barkley showing up for training camp, berating his teammates to the media for their supposedly lack of commitment? As training camp progresses, everyone notices Barkley is overweight and in worse shape than any other person on the team. Such a hypocrite.
Let me give you a history lesson about Charles. His heart may have been in the game, but his ass wasn't in the gym. All other arguments aside and all things being equal, this tool still actually asked Dream to give up the #34 when he came here. He should have been stoned to death where he stood. /thread
Barkley give it all his effort and heart to the rockets, that team was amazing, I think they could had beaten the bulls in that year. I was so sad, when he had that career-ending injury.
I really hope these 3-4 star vote ratings are directed at tinman's latest attention whoring and rep baiting ploy rather than at Barkley himself.
Dude you need to read some of the replies. Like that Pryuen era lemming who said "Yu must think Yao a bust!". I throw out that the offense was based on Steve Francis and Cutino Mobley, that flew over his head like a Moochie Norris pass. Live in the reality of Clutchfans now that the newer fans don't know ANYTHING about Rockets history or NBA history. the YOF, we thought was just a fluke, no dude, those type of fans are multiplying like the deficit. the TOF is the successor to the YOF. Sure maybe a couple people here don't like my post, I get it, I'm a 99er. People didn't like Tupac either. But the fact is your assumptions that people know simple basic NBA FACTS and that they are swayed here for the HOUSTON ROCKETS is wrong. The only thing some people know about Barkley is that he bet that Yao wouldn't score 20 points. They didn't know a thing about Cuttino or Steve or that Barkley played with those two dudes either. There's a time when TOFs and YOFs love Rockets History, that time is NEVER. the place, you can figure out yourself. Stay Thirsty HOUSTON Rockets fans.
