Phoenix has gone 10-15 in their last 25 games. It seems that everyone except the Rockets is beating them. I voted 'yes' in the poll, but I mean that as the answer to whether or not they are a legit playoff team. They're nowhere near challenging the Lakers for the conference yet.
Memphis Grizzlies fans should enjoy the ride and experience all the fun they can while the team is winning. This season should be a very big deal for them and I'd be pumped too if I were a fan of the team.
It gives me hope as a Pirates fan. If the Grizzles, a similar team with abysmal ownership and a GM that knows what he's doing, can turn around their woeful ways -- why can't the Pirates too, right? (Yeah, I know....I won't be holding my breath on that one. But hey, I think I deserve some credit for staying with them and not losing my mind after 18 years of misery! )
It's still far too early to say that the organization has turned it around. The Grizzlies are for real this season, but who knows what ownership/management may do to screw that up. Remember a few years ago when the Clippers almost made the conference finals?
TrueHoop interview with Grizzlies stats analyst Aaron Barzilai. He's the guy who runs BasketballValue.com http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/post/_/id/12407/the-grizzlies-stat-geek-speaks
It's much harder to create a good/competitive baseball team in my opinion. In baseball when you draft your players the majority of them will never even see the majors, and the chance that they do is very rare. Not to mention a much smaller amount of teams make the playoffs, and with no real salary penalties you have teams like the Yankees/RedSox/Cubs who can spend all out. Where as in Basketball if you stay consistently bad for a certain length of time you are going to have high draft picks, and draft picks are much easier to predict in the NBA than MLB. Not to mention the fact that 16 teams make the playoffs.
Exactly, you actually have to be a really good team to make the baseball playoffs. Although the Pirates are in the national league, they do have a better shot than the AL, where the AL east 2nd place finisher has the wildcard locked down.
Yea, but the best part about baseball is you can't ever predict things like the Tampa Bay Rays in 2008.Nobody saw them beating out the Yankees or Red Sox.
It all starts with Zach Randolph. Zach Randolph seems to be taking things seriously now, so now the Grizzlies have to start taking things seriously. Randolph use to be a selfish stat padding loser and I guess he's gotten tired of it.
Grizzlies live and die with their starting lineup. They are an injury away from falling out of the race, because I don't see anyone off that bench stepping up.
it depends on what do you mean by taking them seriously? is it to be contenders or make the playoffs or just make some problems to great teams in the regular season? well, i have not watched Memphis this season, but they seem strong with their recent wins especially against big teams so i'll take them seriously and i think that they can easily make the playoffs and not go further than the first round
Oh all right, I'll start taking Memphis seriously. They've impressed me enough and maintained it long enough to convince me their winning is legit, not a fluke.
that frontline is scary man, i dont think anyone wants to see them in the playoffs. they seem like theyre a point guard away from becoming a top team out west
memphis is looking good I'd hate to think how good they could have been if they did the obvious and take Tyreke instead of Thabeet with the #2 pick. a evans/mayo/gay/randolph/gasol lineup would be really tough to compete against young/conley/haddadi off the bench isnt too bad either (i dont really know the rest of their bench) lionel hollins has done a great job this year there and should be in the running for COY
If the playoffs started today would they be in? Considering where they were last year you might just have to
Young talent, no proven veterans. Zach has adequete experience, but he is no veteran leader, that's for sure.
