I can see Brooks averaging 23-6 with Orlando Magic. He's actually making good passes but Ariza and Battier are not very good at contested shooting. Give AB the shooters of the Magic and I'll be very surprised if he averages under 7 assists. If we can bring Ben Gordon or kind of a shooting guard, Brooks will be better than this.
Talk to the GM Morey or complain to him; he is the one who is looking to add a young athletic forward next to Yao Ming.
Really? You need that explained to you? Steve Nash Chris Paul Deron Williams Tony Parker Jason Kidd Rajon Rondo Derek Rose Brandon Jennings Tyreke Evans The first five of those guys are undeniably better than Brooks. The next four you could make cases for. And if Baron Davis wasn't fat and Gilbert Arenas wasn't going to jail and Devin Harris hadn't lost all hope in New Jersey... Edit: I can't believe I forgot Chauncey Billups. How embarrassing.
A good big man is very hard to come by. When the opportunity rises, you go for it and then fill the rest of the roster. There's a reason why teams pick less talented bigs over talented wings early in the drafts. If you can get Bosh by trade or off season, you go for it. I'm not too keen on Stoudemire though.
Crazy how everyone bashes Brooks on his play & how he is not a PG. He plays his guts out every game & shows that he is becoming one of the leaders on this team. He is not a traditional PG at all but he does do what his job description entail, bring points! We are never going to have a squad riddled with perfect all stars. Every player will have his faults & benefits that's why they're on the team. If Lowry was truly supposed to be our starting PG then he would be now at this time. And then of course he would be called out for his bad plays or games. Ariza isn't great, Battier is not a scorer, Chuck is short, & Luis is unathletic. Please realize that they are doing a fantastic job with NO superstar or even all star precense. I do believe he has a chance at becoming great but we have to actually give him the chance. Everyone will get theirs eventually.
I was going to quote Artest too. That is always something you love about Artest, in his own weird ways.
ALL of those guys are better than brooks the only guy that you could say is on par is Jennings and we are talking about a 19 year old rookie who is still learning the NBA. heck i would give up brooks + anyone on the team for most of those guys on there
Well Kidd is definately not better than Brooks. CP3 and D.Will are. Nash probably is, but he could fall over dead at any second. TP is probably the closest to Brooks, but has been just awful this year for the Spurs. Id say that Rose and Rondo are better. Evans and Jennings arent even close and truthfully are closer to shooting guards.
Brooks is better than Jason Kidd because, AB is younger and Kidd has played way longer...but Kidd is a PG-Rebound Machine...... (is this what you mean on the first sentence)?
Played in the NBA All-Star game (3 times and counting), been a lottery pick (#4), made over $14 million in a season, and currently being viewed as a franchise/max player. Off the top of my head that's enough. http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/b/boshch01.html http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/b/brookaa01.html
Great read and great props to my favorite Houston of Yao. LMFAO to those who wanted Ike freakin' Diogu among other jokes over AB.
When thinking about the PG position Brooks hasn't done enough to solidify himself as more than just a Scoring PG. If he did, I would come to believe Lowry would be expendable. Rafer ran the team and defended better but Brooks is the better scorer. To me all DM did was get a younger, more athletic and cheaper (and in some ways nice upgrade) Alston in Lowry. When Brooks is closing the games consistently at the PG instead of as a SG then I will tip my hat to him. Right now he is often the SG when paired with Lowry. The excuse of him being needed to score doesn't fly with me when I am watching other PG who can also score get the job done i.e., Parker, Paul and Nash. And for those who would like to mention player assists are diminished because of the system, please tell me that any of those players mentioned being paired with these current players wouldn't net more APGs than 5. Brooks is what he is, a SG who because of height is placed in the role of PG. He isn't an Iverson type of SG (granted in his day) who could compensate for his lack of height at the position consistently right now. It's funny how many SGs the Rockets have tried to convert into PGs since let's say Sam Cassell. I conclude by giving Brooks his props for being able to score the ball but I can't see the same level of praise being given at this moment for him being the team's floor general which is what I have always known PGs to be. Maybe it's just because I grew up watching Magic, Stockton, GP and others.
Kidd might not be better anymore. It's debatable. He's gotten old and slow. His defense is pretty terrible. Obviously he's lost his athleticism, but he's still a hell of a passer and his shooting seems to have actually improved as he's aged. If you ask me who I want running my team today (and the future isn't a consideration), I probably have to give Kidd the nod over Brooks. That may just be because it's hard to put aside the fact he's put together a career that probably makes him one of the top ten greatest point guards ever and look at it objectively though. I'm certainly willing to acknowledge that. Tony Parker is having a year that is pretty close to Brook's statistically, and he's been playing hobbled. I disagree that Evans and Jennings aren't even close. In fact, I'd argue both are better. Jennings has already put up a 50+ point game and really already has all of the tools Brooks does, only he's 19 years old. When I see Aaron score 30 points, it feels like it does when you watch a true star score 40. It's incredibly difficult for him to accomplish - which is why his lone 40+ point performance required something like 7 three pointers and three over times. As to the fact they're both more shooting guards than point guards, I'll give you that if you acknowledge that Aaron Brooks is too. He's not exactly an elite passer. He doesn't seem to have great court vision either. He's a scorer. Also, I completely forgot to mention Chauncey Billups.
Aaron Brooks is the Rockets version of Mike Bibby. It's that simple. However, we still need a better SG to pair him with and getting Kevin Martin (i.e. a Rockets version of Peja) won't cut it.

The people who wrote off the Rockets as a lottery team this year were the ones who looked only at how our players had performed over the course of their (short) careers, and didn't take into account that they were young and improving and on a team where they would get the opportunity to shine. In the absence of superstars and with so many young, promising players, someone was bound to step up and have a breakthrough season, put up better numbers than they had in the past and get people talking. Lo and behold, Brooks and Landry have done just that. That said, Brooks' game seems kind of one-dimensional, as a scorer, and he hasn't shown signs of becoming more multifaceted. Landry also has shown what a terrific scorer he can be, but his rebounding seems a little weak.
