Wow there is alot of fellings about this "dream team". One thing I can tell you is that Australian crowds dont like the way some of the dream team games have been played. With a guy like Vince Carter its easy to see why. Here is a guy who every one knows is good. But then he goes out and does something like that? Sydney crowds are very much like a NY crowd would be. They will get on your case very quickly if they dont like what they are seeing. You will hear the chant quite clearly of "Carters a wanker" if he plays up like that. They will boo the "dream team" if thier players take an attitude onto the court against a team that is just happy to be there. After all Aussies will always go for the underdog This "dream team" hasnt made a great deal of fans in Australia. We would loved to have seen them come here and play great, been great people and make us realy appriciate their play, but they havent.I think it may be time for USA Basketball to re think the way they select their side. Maybe a good idea would be to have a team with half college players and half NBA players. Anyway thats my opinion ------------------ Your Starting Power Forward for the Clutch City Allstars My Expert Opinion Of Steve Francis:Mate he is a special player!
The US "Scream Team" could take a lesson from the Canadians. Nash and company are playing excellent team ball, and are taking the olympics very, very seriously. You don't ever hear any negative press about them, only positives. Nash all the way!! Make us proud! ------------------ My dream job is to be a Houston Rockets towel-boy.
Was I the only one that saw the exhibition game with Australia when one of their "super-star" players grabbed Vince by the neck and brought him to the ground when Vince was trying to run up the court following a miss shot? That was a very dirty and risky take down. After that altercation the Ausie crowd began to boo Vince. Let us remember they are still in Ausie and that is the same crowd. ------------------
This team is a far cry from the original. Heck, even the latter dream teams were a bit rambunctious. Larry Johnson and Shawn Kemp were not exactly model citizens, if memory serves me. The one with Dream was a classy one though . This Dream Team is just very young, and they are a sign of the times. The original Dreamer's had many guys in their 30's who know how to act and just play the game. ------------------ "Well, I don't know what I received my honorary degree in, but judging by the fine sisters in the crowd, I hope it is gynecology." Mike Tyson speaks to the crowd after receiving his honorary degree from a college in Ohio.
Gaze fell on him and brought him down after Carter had tunnelled him when he shot a 3pointer. ------------------ Discombobulation Imminent
Good one. Show your ignorance! That "take down around the throat" was by a geriatric old australian.... oh wait... it wasn't a take down. Vince Jumped to block his shot (a three) and then put his shoulder into the chest of the aussie and mowed him down. As the 100 year old aussie was going down he grabbed Carter BY THE HIPS and brought him down too. Carter then got up and stood over the old man and tried to intimidate him. In all fairness another aussie came over and told Vince to "get lost mate" and then Vince tried to play pushings and shovings. He wanted to intimidate the Australians and when they weren't intimidated he started trying to physically hurt them. Justifiably enough the crowd got on his case. (I have the incident on tape and I have watched it several times and it is clear that Vince initiated the contact and the take down) And that crowd (the same one) was in Melbourne, the current crowd is in Sydney. Those 2 cities hate each other and would not pick up habits from each other. The Sydney crowd hates Vince because of his actions there!! Carter can't just go into Australia and expect people to be amazed by his abilities unless he displays them. Now he's displaying a good amount of idiocy and the crowds are simply giving him the "respect" he deserves. Basketball IS a physical game, and there is a way to "get physical" without knocking people down - in fact I don't believe that ANY team has knocked ANY US player to the floor in an unsportsmanlike (Vince-eske) way... go ahead, get physical, but don't play basketball like a bouncer and expect to get any respect from the rest of the world. ------------------
And now there's two people who can verify that Vince took the old man down!!! Strangely, the press reports paint a different story. Houston Chronicle - Associated Press - 9/10/00 Sports Section page 3 The nasty stuff started less than a minute into the game when Gaze , after hoisting up a jumper, corralled Carter around the neck as Carter tried to break downcourt. Carter ended up standing over Gaze , staring down, and Australia's Shane Heal immediately came over and started yelling in Carter 's face. No punches were thrown and there was barely even a shove, but it took more than a minute to restore order. "There was no malice in it, certainly not," Gaze said. "But there was more to the game than that. There was much, much more to it." sport.news.com.au - (Australian Online paper) - 9/10/00 http://sport.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,4057,1183540%255E1141,00.html Carter had earlier been thrown to the ground by Australian Andrew Gaze in an uncharacteristic action. sport.news.com.au - (Australian Online paper)- 10/18/00 http://sport.news.com.au/olympics/story_page/0,4849,1212668%255E9565,00.html In that game Dream Team superstar Vince Carter became an instant villian for the 15,000-plus Melbourne fans when he reacted heatly to Gaze's attempt to sucker in a foul from the referee. ------------------
vince barreled his shoulder into his chest???? are you watching the same game as i am? carter tried to block gaze's 3 and as he started to go by him - not through him - gaze f@cking tackles him by the neck! i don't blame vince one bit for being po'd about that one. and i don't care if gaze is 40 or 70 years old. that ****'s uncalled for and will get your chops busted on most courts.
