I need to register a domain name and it's been many years since I've gone through the process. Is there any reason not to use Go Daddy, as they are by far the cheapest? If so, any recommendations for which company to use, would be greatly appreciated. Again, this is just for domain name registration, not hosting or web site development. Thanks.
Go Daddy is what I've been using for the past few years...it works for ok for me(domain name watches/registration, email, online file storage).
^ If you go with GoDaddy, you're also paying for all that commercial advertising, race car driving, photography, PhotoShopping and silicone they're paying. Usually your web hosting peeps will also bundle the domain registration with hosting packages. See if that's cheaper than to just register the domain with someone as well-known as GODaddy.com Try www.1and1.com 's hosting. I've been using them for 5 years. Before that, it was PlanetNet.com, and both of these registered domain names when I signed up with them.
When I do freelance work I use www.hostmonster.com to host my client's sites. I've had zero problems with them, which is something I can't say about godaddy. They obviously come highly recommended from me, and they are very affordable ($5.95 per month which includes the domain name).
What about privacy? Some registration places don't privatize your registration info, and it's publicly available to spammers. Do those other companies (hostmonster, pairnic, 1and1) provide privacy? Is it an extra cost?
I just read through the TOS for hostmonster and it looks like they're pretty committed to keeping user information private.
Don't do it! They'll have your INFORMATIONS and you will be a victim of identity the91295015m16 10295v@#%*&#%^ I recommend you register a domain name with your real name. It will help us. I mean you. Help you. Go on, do it.
1and1 offers this service free of charge at an option for the customer with the most basic and starter web site hosting package.
