I have a 2005 Volkswagen Passat and I had my emmissions warning light come on last week, I remembered getting a letter from Volkswagen about a Recall for the emission coils so I figured that must be what's causing it. I took the car to the dealership and had them replace the coils free of charge but upon doing so, they called me and said there was a number of other things wrong with the car including 1.) n80 valve leak = $480 2.) engine mount = $380 3.) diff/seal = $1050 4.) Rear brake pads = $410 totalling about $2500 or something liek that. They said they one that was causing the emmission warning light was the n80 valve leak. I declined the service so I could get a second opinion and took the car back and to my suprise the light is no longer on. Now I understand that the light could have reset and it may come back on but is there a chance also that the recall emission coils being replaced fixed the problem but instead of telling me that and letting me walk off without spending money they tried to nail me with other repairs??
is the dealership trying to rip me off? lol...does a bear ****e in the woods? all dealerships try to rip people off.
I'd take it somewhere else and have them look at it... somewhere you trust. Don't tell them what your dealership says
Yeah, bro the dealership is ripping you off. ask Slowy-D where you can find a mechanic. My cousins shop shut down already.
Wow.... I would definitely say so. $410 for a brake job?! That is what they are charging these days?! Ridiculous. I change my own brake and rotors. I think it costs me maybe... $70 to do that.
They are charging for new rotors too which I'm not sure need to necessarily be replaced, I have no idea. I know in my old car, I had my breaks down without changing the rotors.
if the light comes back on, take it to autozone. they will give you the error code that is tripping the light and you can go from there.
Go to this guy... Hank's Service Ctr8386 Bellaire Boulevard, Houston, TX 77036-4731(713) 772-8832 http://maps.google.com/maps?oe=utf-...QY&ei=tMFdS5y3D6fCywTxtuHDDQ&t=h&z=16&iwloc=A He's damn good and the best price in town... He's Vietnamese so it's a little hard to understand him but basically I've brought in the following cars to him... Ford Escort,Toyota Sienna,Honda Accord, Lexus GX470, Mercedes 430, and a couple of trucks and he quotes half of what the dealer charges every single time.. He's damn good!!! He will even throw in some services for free.. Downside his place looks like a crap hole.. Yes I know a lot of repair shops looks like crap but this one takes the cake..
Engine lights, engine mounts, and brakes are unimportant. just drive it till it flies apart. then, you can fix it.
This. NEVER buy a Volkswagen Lease one, fine. But don't ever buy one. As long as your vehicle is under warranty, they will be your best friend in the world, but the moment your warranty runs out, two things happen: the car immediately begins to fall apart, the engine and everything connected to it begins to disintegrate, and the formerly-cheerful people at the dealership will suddenly look at you like you are from another planet when you ask for help. Volkswagen even came out with an extended warranty for all of their models with the engine which had the 'sludge' problem starting back ten years ago or so, because they had so many lawsuits and liability problems. However, according to one service manager who I managed to speak to a few years ago told me that the dealerships NEVER honor that warranty, they are free to disqualify any vehicle they want and call it 'abuse' buy the owner instead. Volkswagens are good fun cars, but if you own one past 50,000 miles, you are in for a world of headaches.
So far there hasn't been anything really major that has failed and i'm at 63k miles. Car drives fine and i just want to make sure these suggested repairs are really necessary, i'll probably take it to the autozone or something and have them check it out on the computer to make sure.
No, they're not trying to rip you off. They're telling you that you might need to replace those soon. Were those their exact words "a number of other things wrong with the car including" or "something like that"?? Methinks they're just telling you what maintenance the car needs. The maintenance vs. wrong might be the key. Do you want to be stranded in the middle of the road next week with a blown engine mount, or do you want to change that now so you don't have to do it later? Like someone else said, take it to someone you trust, because it seems like you don't trust those peeps at the dealership. I think it's their duty to tell you what proper maintenance costs come with your car, and with more reason if it is that expensive to repair if those parts fail. Good point, sir, but MoBalls does all my mechanic work now. And it's SwoLy-D!!!
