Of course, CBA can control players by thick rope without using security squads. The latest news about Wang ZhiZhi is that he already had comprise with CBA. CBA would not give him any punishment because he's so important to China in WBC games and Wang will join China team when they arrvied in us. Wang couldn't play summer league without the some kind of permit from CBA. Warriors let Wang play only one day early before the begining of the summer league after acknowleged the accurate intenal news that China would not break the relationship with warriors if Wang joined. What you can do if you in the position of President of CBA? You can't offer millions of dollars to the players to keep them but you must have them to play to stand for China. You can hate and curse the CBA in every way and you have to admit they are trying to get the maximum profit from Yao's deal. In fact, NBA also don't want to lose the China market and the future potential superstars from China. It's not the last deal that NBA have to talk with CBA. So be patient. Both NBA and CBA want to get this deal. We just sit here to watch who's play good.
Yin, I hope it's a misunderstanding of the income generated by players in the NBA... for themselves, their teams, or the League itself, but billions of dollars is completely off the mark. Michael Jordan himself, the most successful player in terms of dollars made, has a wealth better measured in the tens of millions. This is at the end of his career, with every opportunity to get commercial endorsements and the like. This is a fantastic amount of money! But it's not anywhere near what your thinking of. If Yao is allowed to play in the NBA, without constantly having to fly to the other side of the world to play again (and again, and again... you get the idea) and is free of serious injury, and has a long, successful career, he will still be very, very lucky to approach the earnings of Jordan. And that is allowing for inflation. The way things are going, he'll be lucky to retain a fraction of what he earns due to the demands coming from the various interests in China (not to mention taxes in the United States!). I've been lucky enough to have flown across the world, and even visited Hong Kong many years ago, and it is exhausting. I'm not 2 meters tall! This worries me a great deal. Think of what Yao is being asked to do! He may look superhuman to some, but he is only a man. If too much is asked of him, he will fail. What good does that do anyone?
Definitely, Yao's income is tiny part of the total income bring by him, couldn't billions. But the total income he bring is billions. Don't belive it, just search the culuminist reports before the draft. There're tens of the report about it. Need any help for it? ---------------------- Poor Yao Ming! He have no freedom to choose which country, which city, which team to play. Welcome to the NBA. That's the way it is for every player. No one is forcing him to play in the NBA. I want him here but don't think he should be treated any better than any other player. Don't you think it's unfair to every players include Yao? ---------------------- Till now, Rocket still can trade Yao. There're still some other team want to get him. A lot people said Yao is bust, but so many teams want him, why? Did anybody notice that the report the Goldberg always smiles and laughes during the negotiation? It meaned not Shanhai shark asked too much, in contratry, too little. The new conditions are not beyond the range of last negotiation before draft. Of course, both sides are not keen to sign the constract. There're a lot of time for it. Even there're reports in Chronicle mentioned that Les didn't mind the availibity of Yao in next seasons and the conflict of the schedul for China and NBA, but just wanted to get Yao. At this time, it's a bargain for both sides. It's a business game, not a basketball game. Sit here and wathch it, enjoy it. It's a actual soap play. It's a free business course. From which you can learn a lot. Maybe there's no possibility you grow into 7'6, but you can be a smart businessman. Have a good night.
I highly doubt any pictures were taken of Goldberg during the actual negotiations. Most people smile when cameras are around. os
That's great. I won't take the time to reply with a thoughtful post next time. If you think that's the way things are, yin, go ahead and live in your little fantasy. Don't seriously read what some of us write. We're just capitalist tools (fools?) anyway. Yes, that's sarcasm. You obviously are very familiar with it. Have a nice day. I'm sure you will. You seem to know everything.
I say screw Sharks and CBA. Even though I am Chinese, I don't appreciate what Sharks and CBA have done regarding releasing Yao Ming, like asking Ming to return to China unconditionally as soon as an order is issued back in China. I somehow feel that Rox has been held hostage in this situation. The Rox brass might not know that Sharks and CBA can't afford to mess this thing up even more than the Rox. Iamgine the huge pressure they might face if the negotiation breaks down and Ming can't join rockets this year, someone might lose their jobs.
Actually, some chinese reporter claims he heard Goldburg laughs during the negotiation in the next room. Blame on me, I didn't have enough time/incentive to translate word by word. But, Yin, If you take an american's laughs during negotiation as indication that he is content about the offer, you are seriously mistaken. And columnists don't "report", they writes about their opinions. Yao may worth billions potentially, but there is also great risk involved. OF course, a smart businessman takes reasonable risks. But talking about business, you just don't evaluate the potential value without discounting the risk. The truth is Rockets holds all the cards right now. Yao MIng may worth billions only if he comes to NBA. He doesn't worth hundredth of that if he continues to play for sharks and get their 5000-capacity gym filled. And he cannot wait another year playing for them, his value would plummet by waisting another year. On the other hand, NBA hardly misses a beat if he cannot come. And talking about business, I hope Shark, CBA or any other Chinese business folks understand the baseline/limitation of their counterparty. BTW, welcome to the board.
Yin referring to the United States as "us" reminds me of the obsessed and immature Aggies who refer to UT as "tu." He seems to properly capitalize "China" and "NBA" just fine. Intentional or not, it's a bad time to be dissing the US.
But I get the sense LI yaoming is an idiot. So is anyone thinks Stern will change rules over a foreign player.
all these obligations are going to make yao's career very short, they are working him to hard. It would be cool if one off season the rockets played one the china team, and dominated everyone.
well, before the draft I wanted to trade the pick. and I still want to trade the pick. the people like TRG that mentained how china would always be hard to deal with ,were right all along.Ming has NO say so in the matter,we are putting our faith in a communiest country that slaughters students on the square and murders christians. Imagine this lineup: francis/ moochie cuttino / caron butler odom / nachbar/rice griffin / taylor/thomas cato(we cant have five allstars) collier
way to make your point...just by admitting that you put credence in anything TRG says tells me you don't know sh*t. and then you confirm it with your lineup...uggghh!
And we Americans didn't do this during the civil rights movement in 50's and 60's or put Japanese Americans people in prison camps during the great war. People also forget that the US is the only country to ever drop a nuke. The US is the best country in the world but there are f*cked people everywhere including a lot of people running the US and China. Lets not bring political bullsh!t to this forum.
you are too damn racist.......keep that line up and shove it to your ass tell odom give you some more dope....
I agree there are some f***ed up people and systems in Shanghai and Beijing who are causing the current uncertainty. But IMO, NBA should share some of the blame for not establishing a complete and formal policies regarding foreign potential draftees. NBA has already gone international many years, but imo, there are still lots of loopholes in its policies/rules regarding international issues. For example, why cann't those national team or club duties be settled before a player (like Ming) be even allowed to enter the draft? Is it impossible to settle those issue in April, and has to be negociated in July or August? If some places like Shanghai don't want to comply, That's fine! Byebye, folks, see you next year when you think that through. I think it's unfair to leave these issues (sometimes involves politics) to clubs like Rockets. NBA should do a better job, otherwise people will try to exploit the situation 'cause big money is involved. Love you all, Rockets fans.
