WTF - NEVER, EVER COMPARE SNL-GREAT KEVIN NEALON TO THAT HACK JIMMY FALLON!!!

otherwise i totally agree w/ you.

jimmy fallon is the worst cast member in the history of snl. kevin nealon was hilarious, a member during snl's greatest era and in tons and tons of classic skits.

i dont believe you have ever watched jimmy fallon on snl. he broke character on purpose in most every skit, except his own. if he wasnt the main guy in the skit than he would laugh and break character, but he usually seemed to manage when he was the center of attention.

the only thing that kept the cowbell skit from being flawless was his antics.

    Kevin Nealon is hilarious.

Jimmy Fallon is a hack and always will be.

Death to all that is Fallon.

Surely you jest. While I personally don't care much for Conan's monologue, I can't think of another guy in comedy who comes up with as many new crazy stuff as him. Part of the reason why I became such a huge fan. The guy's comedy writing background isn't just for show.

Of course, a lot of that was unfortunately neutered by the Tonight Show. But the last week pretty much showed that he still has it when he's given free reins.

Yeah, I'm a huge Conan fan and I'll admit that his monologue usually isn't anything special. I'm used to it and I'll laugh at his self-depreciating humor, especially when he tells a bad joke and then comments on how bad it was.

The real gold of his show is the taped skits. Recently he had done some with that Asian guy he met in a gift shop or somewhere, and they were absolutely hilarious. He is also hilarious when he has an "animal expert" on or when he has those movie stunt trainers, or even a chef.

My point is that he's not doing it on purpose so no I don't think he's going for cheap laughs.

And all I said was that Tim Conway made people laugh, which is as much as I know about that show since all I've ever seen is clips over the years from commercials selling tapes or dvds of the show. You seem to know it much better than me, I think the only full sketch I've ever seen is that dentist one.

And Kevin Nealon didn't ride anyone's coattails and was excellent on Weekend Update.

It seems to me that Conan is about to win the lottery. Hard to feel sorry for the guy at all. He played his cards right. I would like to see him move his show to Fox...but if he wants to retire to a beach on Jamaica...then that would be okay, too. I would probably retire and hit a couple of stand-up clubs for side gigs. The real people getting screwed are the people that work for Conan's show it seems.

No, I think you haven't paid enough attention. Part of what makes the cowbell sketch so great is the cracking up and near cracking up. When Fallon laughs and barely gets his line out Farrell is laughing at him. And then when he delivers the line "And I'd be doing myself a disservice and every member of this band if I didn't play the hell out of this!" Ferrell is cracking up too.

Problem is, Ferrell can recover from it. Even CHRIS f'n KATTAN recovered from nearly cracking up. Meanwhile Fallon giggled like a moron for the next 2 minutes.

since this is a thread on late night and not SNL/Weekend Update, I'll go with the folks who have seen an episode or two of Late Night w/ Fallon and admit that his show isn't half bad.

Real Housewives of Late Night has been cracking me up lately, and how can you go wrong with the Roots as your House Band?

Fallon's head writer, A.D. Miles, is a part of David Wain/Michael Showalter's comedy gang, appearing in Wet Hot American Summer and Role Models...

    SUBJECTIVE COMEDY THREAD IS SUBJECTIVE

i never found fallon funny on snl, save the redsox fan skit.

I did happen to catch his show early on and it was horrible. A couple months later i caught it again and it was much improved...still not good enough for me to go out of my way to watch, but not half bad.

I caught the Real Housewives sketch on Fallon, which is good. But I personally didn't like most of his other bits - all the game shows w/ contestants, the thank you letters, slow jam the news, etc. I give him credit for trying to do something different though. His best stuff is when they do full blown, pre-recorded sketches ie SNL type stuff.

And I'd say Conan is definitely NOT living off of the past. Whenever he has that weird co-producer (the Patrick Bateman from American Psycho-type) on the air it's comedy gold, for example.

And dissing Kevin Nealon. Blasphemous. He's from the Dream Team era of SNL. He may not be a starter, but he's on there. (I liken the Belushi, Akroid, Murray, etc. period as the Russell/Chamberlain/etc legends era).

This has nothing much to do with this thread but I don't feel like starting a new one.

    Conan has become must-see TV.

I can't wait to see what he has in store for Friday.

LOL @ buying a $1.5 million sports car and dressing it up as a mouse just to piss off NBC.

80 million Baby Boomers (Jay's age bracket) The lead edge is two years away from hitting 65... and the generation is about a 17 year gap or so... the Gen Xers are about 35 million... so less than half.

I think the B.B. group has more money. ;)
