If things weren't prematurely promised it would have been a lot better for Tmac/Yao. The words were more so from McGrady, but they were a duo nonetheless.
I would say I can't believe I bought into the TMac hype, especially after we had been having the wool pulled over our eyes with SF3 for so long. But back then it really wasn't just hype. TMac used to be a legitimate elite level talent. Its just sad how fast a former player of his caliber falls so far from even respect.
Lol, I made it because I was surprised a few people in that thread had said they didn't expect a championship. Just curious as to what the rest of CF expected.
they'd be lying if they didn't expect at least one championship when tmac was brought here. the era was an absolute disappointment. oh well, morey knows what he is doing so a championship isn't too far away i hope.
One Western conference finals appearance, provided if we had a strong supporting cast, peak health and continuous growth. I admit having doubts of them going that far,but I felt there was an outside shot of that.
i expected none. i didn't think either one of them were true leaders nor tough enough for the job since they both kept getting hurt.
I already knew Rockets were never going to win a championship or go deep until the added another allstar player to gives us that 3rd scoring threat, we were the only team in the west who didn't have that. (Marion, Stoudamire, nash) (Dirk, Finley, Howard) (Duncan, Parker, Ginobili) Which was why I knew that battier trade was dumb, him alone wasn't enough to make us contenders, and gay would have been a perfect 3rd option and a great replacement for t-mac for the future considering T-mac was in his prime and injury prone. Especially knowing we wouldn't get a chance at a high daft pick again with yao and t-mac coming back from injury.
Good post. My expectations were deep playoff runs and at least 1 championship. After that game 7 playoff blowout when TMac quit on the team, those expectations were pretty much dashed. It is rather sad how the amazing duo has turnout for us. Tmac and Yao of 2005 with these amazing role players would have brought us a trophy or two.
I really thought we could've had it for at least two of the years. I know that's just me though. There weren't that many dominant teams then. Lakers were struggling then with an angry Kobe Bryant. If only we didn't choke against the Jazz and perhaps that Dallas one. Other than the stupid injuries, I really thought we had everything to make it all the way, at that time.
Therefore, their respective next pro basketball contracts should be overseas, not here in the NBA.
At least to make it to the 2nd Round. Stay healthy together for one season. But obviously that was asking too much.
In 07-08, If we would have had Yao.. We could have beaten the Jazz, ripped the warriors a new hole, and then who knows in the WCF..
