I don't know if anyone tracks a stat like this, but has there ever been a team that played the entire season without their two biggest contracts (gonna forget T-Mac's cameo appearances) and had a winning season? That these Rockets have performed so admirably in the last few years with the plague of injuries that befell T-Mac and Yao deserves a big SALUTE!
It definitely would set a record that a team without 40 mil in their salary playing could have a winning season, which would be huge for the organization and at least for our fans to cheer about. Keep playing with energy, effort and heart, compete every possession.
Well I know the Soviet flag was Rocket Red and Desert Gold.... <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/tpvq3hmCKCs&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/tpvq3hmCKCs&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
I don't know if they could set a record (are their stats for most wins while missing two stars?) but I definately salute the grit and of this team.
If we are playing music celebrating the proletariot ethic of the Rockets howabout this: <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/DcDtkBfn2SI&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/DcDtkBfn2SI&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
If someone had a spreadsheet of player salaries, they could calculated "wins per effective salary", where "effective salary" is a weighted sum of the team's salary by minutes played.
Can anyone even name a previous team where the two top highest paid players were injured? Not much of a record if you don't have much of a competition.
True but the real measure is "dearth of minutes played." The usual cause is injury, but as ever with T-Mac things are kind of extraordinary.... We get NOTHING from more than half of our payroll and we can still complete.
Don't think not having a major superstar counts as a recordable stat. But besides that, I think the Bucks last year were still in the playoff hunt for 3/4s of the season last year, without Micheal Redd and I think Andrew Bogut.
I'm sure it is not a "recordable" stat but I bet it is "discoverable." Was the Eastern Conference as weak last year as they were the year before and are this year? Redd/Bogut is good but it's not T-Mac/Yao
Every game we win is record setting. Considering there has never been a center short as Chuck, every game we win is the most wins by a team with a 6'6 center. I wonder where we compare as far as average height for the whole team. Could we be the shortest team ever in NBA history? Now that would be record setting to be the shortest team in NBA history. Then you add on to off that that we are winners....
I guess your definition of "without their stars" is different than some others. I wouldn't consider limited minutes in 7 games enough to discount what has been accomplished.
I've heard rumblies about having a 6'6" starting center, regardless of win or lose, but no comparison of our salary to other teams throughout history. And since Tmac did actually play some minutes, you'd have to do some kind of averaging of minutes and salary to get it accurate. As well, I would think you'd be better off simply comparing salaries of who's play without considering who isn't playing do to injuries or otherwise. Taking it that way, there are surely are some teams who actually operated on a pretty low salary. Then factor in inflation or comparing the team to an average for teams in that season, since obvioulsy teams in the early years did not pay players anywhere near as well. It'd be too complicated to really calculate, and in the end, I think it would actually take away some from the spirit of what the Rockets are accomplishing.
