Rivers is way better. Eli seems to have a knack for coming through in the clutch, but Rivers kills him in every category statistically. I'll admit that Rivers isn't as good in the playoffs as he should be (due in part to the complete sham known as LT), but to sit here and act like his postseason flops somehow drop him below a just above average QB like Manning is ridiculous.

Ask yourself this: As a defensive coordinator, does Eli strike fear in you? Do you ever sit there and think "Oh crap, Eli is going to take over this game?" the way that Rivers and others can? I just don't see that. Eli plays well in the clutch but his numbers are pedestrian. Rivers actually has megastar talent and a megastar arm. He's the guy that should win a poll like this in a landslide.

Except for in last year's playoffs where Eli sucked, and Rivers threw for 300 yards 3tds in a loss to the Steelers. And this is the 2nd time Kaeding has choked Rivers out of a chance to advance in the playoffs.

Of course Rivers is supposed to play special teams, and defense now. Perhaps he should become a doctor, so he can help keep his teammates healthy, which has been a major problem in San Diego.

Wait. You're holding a lack of playoff success against Philip Rivers, yet you have no problem putting Aaron Rodgers at No. 3 - a guy that hasn't won a single playoff game?!?

I'm more amazed that Brady, who has won so many playoff games isn't even on the list.

It's not like this season is completely taken out of context.

    Compare numbers of playoff stats.

Brees QB rating in the years before was 67.5 and 76.9.

I remember that year fine. Kaeding choked against the same team in the playoffs.

That was Bree's best season as a Chargers (he won CPOTY).

Next year he led the Chargers to a 9-7 record which was also the the season he injured himself badly against the donkos.

The injury worked out for the Chargers, because it gave them a good excuse not to resign him, and instead go with Rivers. Brees is a very good example why you have to give some QBs years to develop. I can remember them drafting him at the top of the 2nd round the year they got LT as the QB of the future and him loosing his starting job to Flutie.

How is this a discussion for anyone who watches football?

For the past two years, Rivers has generally been the player carrying the Chargers, whereas Manning has been just another element on a team with mediocre offense and great defense (great defense except for this season, of course).

Let me phrase the question this way: If you were a GM starting a brand new team, and you had the rest of your team set except for QB (just imagine mediocre offensive team and mediocre defensive team), would you take Rivers or Eli Manning as your QB?

Rivers is the better QB, but Eli's game winning drive in the Superbowl was classic.

    Karl Malone

    or

    Bill Walton?

Would you take years and years of watching awesome production or would you trade it all for mediocre production+1 amazing run and the title?

    i take the title.

    Go get your head examined.

    Signed,

The winner of two Super Bowl's and the guy that unequivocally owns Rivers anytime they play head-to-head.

If that list is based this season then Brady shouldn't be on that list.

WTF did anybody watch the damn Patriots this season or did people just put in Brady's name because of his past success?

You can debate Big Ben and Aaron Rodgers.

    1. Peyton
    2. Brees
    3. Favre
    4. Rivers
    5. Big Ben/Aaron Rodgers

so rivers is better than brady. didn't we have this discussion already? do i need to make another thread / poll to see who's better? granted, rivers is a great qb. i know, but he's certainly not top 5. that's you being biased.

put brady on that SD team with their receivers, gates, and their defense, and you got yourself a IND vs. SD AFC championship.

Brady > Rivers. I think everyone would agree.

    Big Ben, Rodgers > Rivers.

At best, Rivers is a top 10 QB.

Big Ben is a stud, not sure why they didn't play well this year but from the past few years, he's had the better team and he's been a better QB.
