Injuries were part of the Olajuwon era too, anyone remember Cartwright? the 2nd championship season, Dream was injured for a large part of the season. Michael Jordan had injuries too.
Yao's era isn't going to end. The Rockets aren't trying to trade him Yao has made it past the first round or did you not know that? /99
you can go to some other threads, if you hate burgers would you show up at burger king? to answer your question.. FOREVER. 99ers don't quit (like Tmac).
What multiple transactions are you talking about? Oh you mean the acquisitions of the Stro Show and Mike James? The only decent guys I recall us acquiring are David Wesley, Battier, Bob Sura and Jon Barry. Anyway blaming Tmac and Yao for not being "talented" enough isn't fair because these days, no one can carry a team if you're not named LBJ.The guys Tmac and Yao go up against regularly are just as good as or better then they are (Duncan, Kobe, Dirk, Deron Williams, Boozer etc), but they have far superior roleplayers. Add to that 90% of our trades resulted in crappy players then I consider it overachieving we got the post season so many times. IMHO Tmac and Yao performed reasonably well under the circumstances.
it failed because having 2 starting allstars should result in a far playoff run, not 1st round and out. it should be multible choice. it failed because of everyone!!!! SOME NIGHTS WAS Luther heads fault, others tmacs fault, others yaos, others jvgs, others alstons. its sad tmac gets blamed for all the failures. i tried to carry the team but why cant yao carry a team ? boozer was eating him alive in game 7. tmac is not lebron or kobe or wade. we all thought he was in 2004, but he is more like a tall francis, kinda reminds me of dominque wilkens, great dunker and scorer but never a winner.
1. Sub-par supporting cast and poor draft choices, during the entire JVG era. C'mon, how many elite players in NBA history can carry Rafer, Luther Head, Jon Barry, Bobby Sura, David Wesley, Juwan Howard, Reece Gaines, Keith Bogans, Ryan Bowen, Stromile Swift, Moochie Norris, Rick Brunson, Mike James, Mark Jackson (way past his prime), Rod Strickland (way past his prime), Mike James, and Charlie Ward. On a very offensively challenged team. Only a great center could do something with that squad. If people thought Kobe's squad was bad pre-Gasol or LeBron's supporting cast, they should like the Rocket teams from 04-07 or the Magic from 01-04. I believe T-Mac can get some leeway in not playing on a great squad, because again there are very few players in NBA History have accomplished alot with an inferior roster. It's almost impossible to win, especially when the other teams are so talented and well-compensated on the bench. 2. Injuries I'd imagine, if Yao made it through 70-82, and healthy for the playoffs, the Rockets would've made past the 1st Round a bit earlier than they did. We already know how effective Yao was in the game when everything is right. 3. Better (more talented) teams in the field, especially in the West; since 2004 San Antonio Spurs (2x Champion) Los Angeles Lakers Phoenix Suns Dallas Mavericks Utah Jazz (arguably) Denver Nuggets (arguably) Up until Adelman and Morey came in, the Rockets talent-wise were not in the same class with these teams and didn't really get any chances to draft high or bring in a high quality free agents.
04/05 - Terrible supporting cast, no one but T-Mac and Yao could get it done in game 7. 06-07 - Utah was the better team 07-08 - Injuries
Yeah, no heart. I guess that qualifies as a health issue. Also, has everyone already forgotten that the Rockets got to the second round last year for the first time in forever?
Well since we are a Houston Rockets site, explain this: <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/luF-e5oPi5k&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/luF-e5oPi5k&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> For example, the Lakers have a legacy of championships and elite players who led them to championships. The Celtics have a legacy too. Both Lakers and Celtics fans only care about championships. So do Rocket fans ever since Olajuwon. WE WANT CHAMPIONSHIPS. We AREN'T SATISFIED WITH A BUNCH OF POINTS IN 35 SECONDS.
You missed some years. But you have the right idea. It's different every year. I should have known better not to click on tinman's poll.
All I know is kobe couldn't get out the first round when shaq left until they surrounded him with bynum, gasol, and odom. Outside of t-mac and yao rockets had no help what so ever offensively, all we needed was one more 3rd scorer but we traded it for battier which was a big mistake. We needed more speed and athleticism after getting exposde by the mavs because they were just so much quicker than us, but we traded for another slow spot up shooter which put all the burden back on t-mac to create.
To those who think this poll is 'unfair' 1. we know tmac is gone. therefore his era is "OVER". 2. did I not give you Yao as an option? or the supporting cast? or the coaches? I guess I forgot to put the GM and the refs. 3. Injuries if you think Yao's injuries screwed up the Tmac era, then vote Yao. They have plastic bottles cause if you drop a glass bottle it breaks.
