I think this aspect of the issue is getting far too much play. How often do teams start the season 13-0 or 14-0 to give themselves this opportunity? Not very. I don't think the NFL brass is too worried.

On the other hand, the fact the Colts pulled Manning out of the game against the Jets and it helped the Jets make the playoffs and get a re-match is delicious. It throws some spice on what is basically a boring matchup. The NFC game will get most of the attention this week.

You're knocking on 15-0 and a chance to go undefeated and put yourself in the record book. You go for it. Period.

The look on Peyton's face said it all.

This jets team is playing awesome, especially the defense.
they are playing better now, then in week 16 against the colts, its going to be a nice matchup.
and I think its karma if you had the chance to eliminate that team, and that team eliminates you in the playoffs.
and it wasnt the coach choice to rest the starters, it was the colts president decision to rest the starters in that game.

where's that TMacADDidas at? still think Rivers' all that great? i don't, never did. at least Eli's got a ring. Rivers can't even beat the jets. c'mon. now it's an easy road for the colts and either the vikings or saints.

Rivers made one bonehead decision by throwing into what seemed like double or triple coverage. The rest lies on the kicker. They win the game if Kaeding kicks like he normally does in the regular season.

Rivers' play has been nothing short of stellar in the 11 game win streak. He has the second highest qb rating of all time. Maybe Eli is lacking weapons currently but Rivers seems to be more consistent.

Karma, karma, karma... where's Jason Lee when you need him?

My problem with the Jets is that Ryan won't shut up...sure he's backing up his talk...but still it rubs me the wrong way when you plan out your schedule for the rest of the year all the way to the victory parade route...or when you start talking about you're the team to beat. I like humble...if you know you're underrated so what, let your play on the field prove the doubters wrong.

My second problem with the Jets is they earned an easy ticket to the playoffs, when Indy and Cincy both shut it down, and the Texans had to earn their last few victories. Yeah if they had beaten the Jets in week 1, they could have controlled their own destiny; doesn't change the way I feel. I think the Patriots made a classy move in playing their starters; they made the Texans earn that victory in a game with playoff implications. Welker's injury was unfortunate, but was a fluke accident that could have happened anytime, anywhere. Injuries are a part of the game and you play to win.

And I don't think resting your starters is a simple black and white issue. If it was there wouldn't be so much debate on the topic. For instance, yes playoff seeding was on the line for the Vikings. But they played their starters in Week 17 and went all out, and they clearly got some swagger back and found their edge in that blowout victory. It's not a big leap to assume that game helped them to regain some confidence. At the same time, the Saints rested their starters and still walloped the Cardinals. No easy answer.

Jet are the luckiest team in football. If Kaeding doesn't pull a Kris Brown, we're probably talking about a different match up.

As for karma, yeah it applies. If the colts play the game out vs the Jets, this match up doesn't happen. It would be fitting for them to be upset by the jets.

As for nothing to play for, what about a shot at history? We all know Peyton is injury prone, but come on. Also what if you're a fan that buys a ticket at full price only to see something less than a preseason game? All that in addition to the playoff implications. There is a reason the NFl is going to take another look at it when the year is over. The fact that we're still talking about it should show that it must've mattered to some fans.

Playing safe is fine, but there's a way to go about things. I hope the Jets can pull it off again.

Sarcasm? Dude never misses a game. I could be mistaken but I don't think he's ever been hurt.

This is going to be ugly.

San Diego choked to this unimpressive Jets team but Indy won't. Too bad because I was sure SD could actually beat Indy in Indy.

If they wrap up 3 weeks early and can afford to sit players, then you can't complain when they do. Not in the sport of football, where it's so easy to get someone hurt (see Welker against us). I can't believe folks are shocked that a team/coach would want to sit dudes in such a violent game. These dudes can suffer a serious injury on any play.

Dude, they beat us, and it wasn't even close. If you can't beat the team that you finish behind then you have no right to cry about other teams letting them off the hook. We had our shot. I can maybe understand this argument if it were two teams who never played and once closes with the gimmie wins, but the Jets kicked our ass.

I'm still not sure how this could be any worse of a matchup for the Colts.

Their biggest (only) strength is their passing offense, which is going up against the Jets Biggest strength (passing defense, best in league).

The Colts biggest weakness is their rushing defense (worst in playoffs) and they're going up against the team with the best running game in the league.

I will not be surprised by a Jets victory. I'd almost guarantee it if isn't wasn't for Manning, who I would never outright pick to lose.

I didnt thing the Jets would make it out of the wildcard game. They are playing like they want to win. But the colts with manning is a force. I think Colts Vs Saints in the Superbowl.
