[ESPN]Allen takes issue with fans' voting role

I'd rather the fans not vote or if they do vote not have 100% control of the starters.

 

the problem is. . it comes up *IN* contract negotiations

so . . .don't be stupid enough .. to not consider it is a negotiation tool!

that's why an accomplishment like __ time all-star is pointless.

it just means your popular amongst casual nba fans but i don't fault the nba. the all-star games is for the fans so the fans should be able to vote who they want to see.

sucks that guys having great seasons get overlooked but it's all about entertainment.

 

The NBA probably has control of who starts anyway. They just secretly make the changes before posting the results.

 

Right now Vince is playing poor ball, he hasn't been great all season, Ray Allen isn't exactly performing spectacularly and Iverson is playing decent so i don't think the whole Iverson shudnt be playing because 1 of those 2 shud is a tad flawed. However, Tracy shudn't be voted in and he knows that, he said he would not play if he was put in the starting line up

 

I have lost interest in the all star game long time ago. It's just a glorified street ball game with zero competitive spirit.

 

I like Allen's idea. I agree with Easy. The all-star game has lost all it's luster.

 

He's jealous. He should have tell this two years ago when Hedo deserved to be an all-star instead of Ray Allen.

 

Huh? The Allstar game is for the Fans. If the fans want to see Iverson and Tmac, then let them. The ASG has no bearing on the seasonal standings, why would you care who makes them or not? Allen's just jealous because he's considered the half in the Big two-and-a-half.

 

But the whole point of putting it in contract negotiations means you're popular among the fans right? If you can't get in via the normal voting process then that just means you're not popular enough to put it in your contract in the first place.

 

Wait, Allen isn't blaming the millions of Chinese fans who skew the voting and may get Iverson into the game?

I've always thought American fans were unbiased and never vote for players by reputation/locale over production. So it must be the Chinese votes getting AI into the game. Isn't the answer to Allen's question to simply ban Chinese voting and the all-star game will be back to its old goodness again?

 

For sure. Fans now are smartass enough to organize efforts to vote in anybody they want, any kind of theme. They can go All Small, All Tall, All Scrub, All Old, any kind of gimmick.

Which means the pure definition of the term All Star is not the same. It conflicts with the intention of featuring the best players. They can't call it "All Star" anymore. Itd just be what it is, All People's Choice game.

I think Ray Allen is actually kinda right. He's being a decent spokesman not all whiney. A more congressional style approach to the selection wouldnt be a bad idea. The process can have an adjustment here and there. But then the fan voting hasnt been THAT corrupted as-is. No one's voted in DJ Mbenga, yet.

Then there's always the true All NBA teams at season's end.

 

He's not really in a position to talk. Fans don't wanna see him and coaches aren't gonna vote him in cause there's more deserving players so he comes off sounding bitter.

 

Its about what the elitists really want to say -> Fans are idiots, do away with them. Thats at its extreme.

In that vein, in times where democratic systems allowing citizens to participate is encouraged, I don't see that being a popular notion crimping on their "freedoms". Even if the people are wrong. Even Dictator Stern knows this is perhaps the only time fans get any kind of direct return on their investment.

 

who cares? its a freakin show for the fans. why push them out of the equation? they should have the best team vs. the best players. that would be interesting.

 

For that matter, I think that aging has-beens, despite having been a great player at one point, should be limited in what they can say to the press. What Allen said is absolutely elitist. Bosh seems like the better man in this case and recognizes where his pay checks come from. Let the fans vote! No one says that they are the best players anyway, just that they are stars, and by definition some of the most popular players.

 

The system needs fixing, but coaches and beat writers would be worse. I would like 10 pods of 10 people and would have to log onto actual games watched. Scouts would probably do a good job also. Coaches are focused on their team and most writers only watch their team or teams in their time zone.

 

.....Which is great, because that idea is completely absurd.
