If they cannot make the trade for Mt Mutombo then they may look at it unless they use the sign and trade with Tmac and get a PG. ------------------ Houston Rockets Forever!! In Rudy We Trust
i dont get w hy people think that other teams want drew so much. he hasnt' proven to be any more than a maloney type ------------------ Shane "Save Our Rockets" "Life without basketball in Houston........without an arena that is what it will be"
Man, I am sick of hearing that. When given the opportunity, Drew has been a good producer. He may need to go to a team that has a more post-oriented offense, but the guy can shoot so he will always have a job. It is really hard to mark his value because of limited PT, but to say he is worthless or a bust is short-sighted. You cannot say a player in his 2nd year is a bust, especially one taken after the 10th pick. ------------------
Drew hasn't even been given a Maloney-type chance. I don't think anyone can base what Drew can do in this league on what he has done in short stints of playing time. The only thing that comes close to a good gage is his production when in the starting rotation (or maybe games in which he got significant playing time). ------------------ [This message has been edited by TraJ (edited June 09, 2000).]
Drew averaged 20 points 10 assists a game when he started. It was only 2 or 3 games but the kid can produce when given a chance. He has value. I am not saying he is a world beater but he is a NBA quality player. ------------------ Houston Rockets Forever!! In Rudy We Trust [This message has been edited by Dennis2112 (edited June 09, 2000).]
Drew may have had some nice games, but 20/10 is way exaggerating it. Looking at his stats, he had one game of that all year and he started 7 or 8 times. He averaged closer to 15 points/6 assists. Don't give him that much credit. ------------------ Cheaters never win. Unless you play for LA that is. [This message has been edited by The Cat (edited June 09, 2000).]
So if you use that as a gauge then he would be considered decent. Not as much of risk as some kid in college. ------------------ Houston Rockets Forever!! In Rudy We Trust
I went back and averaged the games in which Bryce played more than 30 minutes (starting or not). He averaged 38.8 minutes, 15.6 points, 4.8 assists, and 1.2 steals a game. I don't think Drew would do anything but get better if he were given those minutes on a consistent basis. Just because he doesn't fit our team doesn't mean he wouldn't be a great addition to another team (perhaps even starting on some of them). ------------------
true but would he have any trade value at all...he may have a great shot but will he ever be able to go up against the other teams top guards each night. i think he is a good player but possibly a first backup at pg at this point i don't see why teams would trade for him as a starter until he proves a lil more ------------------ Shane "Save Our Rockets" "Life without basketball in Houston........without an arena that is what it will be"
other variables: 1. He's a coach's son (This means, odds are he works hard, and has it in his blood, plus a great b-ball IQ) 2. The "Clutch" tag (Valpo shot. I personally think he's just as good as Mateen Cleaves, if not better) 3. Low Price Tag (If you don't like him, you're not eating much of a contract....if you do, he's a steal) He still at best would command a low to mid 20s pick. ------------------ Rockets fans wanted at hoopsboards.com Draft Chat, NBA Chat, Team Chat, and more!
But would a PG-starved franchise trade away a disgruntled Davis for a promising point guard that can open the floor for their jump-shooting, basket-driving small forward? Drew may not be a GREAT playmaker but you cannot leave him to double the post. ------------------
Toronto needs a PG, and if they couldnt get one by drafting or FA, we should deal Drew to them. How about Drew+ #38 for Antonio Davis. Davis isnt that old, and is a solid PF ------------------ Rockets games are like a box of chocolates, you never know whacha your gonna get. "Toronto needs a PG, and if they couldnt get one by drafting or FA, we should deal Drew to them." You should change that to -- "...if they can't get one by holding a contest whereby the first person over the age of 18 that shows up to the game tonight is our starting point guard...", we should deal Drew to them. ------------------ Too-Rye-Aye!
There is no way in hell Toronto would do that. Davis is a very solid starting big man who did very well this season for them. Drew is just a back-up PG, and pick 38 doesn't have much worth since most players picked around there fail anyway. Don't overestimate Drew's value. Drew isn't any better than Doug Christie, Dee Brown, and those other point guards the Raptors have. Also, the Raptors traded last year's number FIVE pick for Davis. Do you think Drew and pick 38 is a fair offer for pick 5? ------------------ Cheaters never win. Unless you play for LA that is.
Is it just me or was that J. Bender for A. Davis trade possibly the worst in the past decade? J. Bender is going to be a SUPERSTAR and Davis is just a solid, old backup. He wasn't even a center, which is what Toronto was looking for. I'm beginning to believe Toronto is one of the stupidest franchises what with this trade plus that wacked out Butch Carter situation. ------------------
Here's the catch: neither Davis, Christie, nor Brown appear to want to be in Toronto (see nbatalk.com). I'm not saying they'll all be gone, but there is a possibility. I suspect the Raptors would find a better deal than the one suggested, but I think Drew would make for a decent starting point guard. He did for us when given the opportunity. That's no guarantee, but it's at least a good sign that he can be a starter for someone. ------------------
