One important question that hasnt really been talked about very much on the boards is the free agents in that 7 million dollar range. Mike Miller and Marcus Camby come to mind.

I think a reasonable scenario would be Dj Mbenga and Mike Miller with our cap room, which shores up 2 holes in our lineup.

i dont think Morey ever said he's adding pieces that help now AND later only, but that he's adding pieces that can help now AND/OR later. That's why he's also said he'd be open to a young all star type or a all-star at the end of his career with some gas still left.

When the Von/JR comparison was being made on this forum last season I felt that Von was more consistent and JR was much more explosive.

I'd take either guy on this squad in a minute and trade Ariza to the Antarctic League.

Yeah I'd do it.However, I think it is unlikely a SB for Smith or TA for Smith deal happens.

Maybe its just me and maybe its been noticed before, but JR Smith has too many tatoos to play for us. I think that just like the Spurs, the Rockets management have a certain image they would like to portray.

Agreed, just get Ariza the heck out of here when we have a replacement.

i don't know, the tats may not help but if he were all-star caliber talent then i think it wouldn't matter. let's not imply that the rockets are a racist organization.

He has a low IQ,doesn't play much defense and is immature. No reason for him to be on the Rockets.
If Fernandez and Batum were healthy and playing well,I would it give consideration. Bottom line for me has always been the same,if we get become a genuine contender quickly,I would retain Battier and Luis unless we got some experienced players who are better than them or a highly polished young vet.

My reasoning is because I have a strong feeling once we get another scoring option Ariza will have to play more of the flow of the game and will not be able to jack up shots. JR may jack up shots, but at least he can make them and is more efficient.

It would've been true up until the last 3 seasons...Bonzi Wells and Ron Artest.

I want to be clear that I am a Rockets fan, so I want all of our players to do well, thus the team to do well. However, you mentioned that Everyone has been asked to do more. That being the case, I think its important to look at it objectively.

While all are being asked to do more, I think Battier is doing about the same, definitely not more. He is who he is and nothing is wrong with that.

Battier: PPG Ast RPG Stl Blk
    Career 9.9 1.9 4.7 1.1 1.0
    09-10 8.3 2.5 3.7 0.8 1.0

It appears that Ariza is doing more than he has historically done. Maybe not efficiently, but doing more. Its important to note that Morey and Adelman have said repeatedly that they thought that Ariza could do more. I think he is being asked to do too much which is hurting his efficiency. I think he will be more efficient once is settles into his role.

Ariza : PPG Ast RPG Stl Blk
    Career 7.9 1.6 4.0 1.2 0.3
    09-10 16.0 3.8 5.7 1.8 0.4

I think Ariza will get better in the future. I don't think we will compete for a Championship this year, so its important to have pieces that can grow with the team. I like Battier, but I don't think he has an upside.

I would love a deal that was Ariza for JR. Neither play D, but JR is one of the most efficient offensive players in the nba

I disagree. I have never heard the "All Star at the end of his career" statement. I heard a young player who has all star potential or a former all star. I think Caron Butler would be a former all-star, but he is not at the end of his career. Caron Butler has the chance to be an all-star again.
