I really hope they can't make a blockbuster trade. The last thing we need is them to pick up someone like Martin or Butler. I know Mark Cuban has been after Chris Bosh for a couple of years now...

The one constant is that Cuban's impatience will screw it up.

They would have already had one or more if they would have kept Nash.

I still think it was stupid for them to trade Devin Harris though. That was dumb. I know he's not playing too well this year but man he was such a stud last year.

That trade looks better for them than it did at the beginning. The problem when Kidd first got to the Mavs is that Avery Johnson didn't get along with or trust him any more than Devin Harris. Once AJ was canned, Kidd has done well at Dallas. I actually think the trade was good for them.

Dirk has to carry that team too much. His numbers so far this season are ridiculous. The Mavs must trade Josh Howard for a better wing player. Shawn Marion should also be on the block. Dirk and Kidd are the only two guys that will definitely finish the season there.

I don't think that trade made them better than what Harris would of offered them. Harris was a nightmare matchup when you had to play against the Mavs. You had to deal with Harris and the Jet trying to match speed for speed.

Don't get me wrong, Kidd has really paid off for them. He's a triple-double machine but they were right there were they needed to be. As you can see, Dallas hasn't done much ever since they traded him away.

Dirk is putting up some really great numbers this year. Dallas needs a change altogether. They are a strong regular season team but a piss poor playoff team. J. Howard is not the answer for them and Marion is not the same player as he was back in his Phx days.

I think Kidd is over-rated big time. He's over the hill, but still gets more credit for what he used to be. He isn't much threat to score, and I don't think his defense is very good at all. I think they'll have a hard time being a title contender with him running the show.

I agree. As shrewd an investor as Cuban thinks he is, why did he sign Kidd to a 3 year 25M deal? A guy like Iverson or Marbury could have been had for a lot less and probably contributed a lot more than Kidd.

the one thing that the Mavs front office is sneaky and good about are these "un-guaranteed/partially guaranteed contracts. They are better than expirings to other teams and thats how they landed Marrion this season.

I hate to hear this. Do not like hearing the Mavs will be competing with us in trade talks.

Howard + Dampier would be their top offer for guys like Bosh, and it's not terrible. Dampier (or Howard) and a sweetener for Boozer, and I could see the Jazz resigning Dampier this summer.

Bosh would have to be their top target though - he'd be a great frontcourt partner for Dirk. Low post skills but versatile enough to switch on defensive assignments and come out to the perimeter for high screens.

The chances of San Antonio and/or Dallas acquiring a significant all-star caliber player before the deadline is pretty high IMO. Almost makes you want to throw up.

Are you actually saying that Iverson or Marbury could have contributed to winning basketball games?

Wow, I don't even know what to say

Bosh and Dirk 100% overlap each other and one would have to play C. I don't know if the chemistry would be there. I think the Mavs need more of a dynamic SG/SF slasher/scorer that the Mavs wish Josh Howard would be.

I think they should keep Dampier because he's more valuable to them this season than they would get in value as part of a trade.

Marion was what Nash made him back in the PHX days.

Even before they traded Marbury, Marion was a big athlete with not as much production, Nash was the one that brought it out of him with the way he set Shawn up.

That's one of the main reasons, I see, that PHX declined to offer him an extension and ultimately traded him for Shaq-tus. (sp?)

You've got to be kidding me, Marbury? Are you on drugs?

Make sure you never interview to be a GM. ;)

Iverson or Marbury? They might have scored more, but the team wouldn't be winning as many games.

I knew mentioning Marbury and Iverson would get a reaction but my point was you could have gotten a former all-star for a lot less than Kidd for a 1 year deal and not lock up 25M in cap space for 3 years. What chance does Cuban have of trading a 36 year old PG making 8M plus a year. He is playing pretty well but signing 36 year olds to multi-year contracts does not make a lot of sense.

I think San Antonio will have a harder time this year to make a trade. I know they have two expiring but I just can't see them being players. But the Spurs have shocked me more than once.

Yes and No. Marion just doesn't have the same step he once had when he was in PHX. I mean Nash helped out on his scoring but Marion was a great rebounder for his size. I don't think Nash was the one tipping those rebounds to him.

    Exactly.

They also seem to be going after players that will redundant on the roster (Bosh, Boozer). Neither guy is going to mix well with Dirk. As others have mentioned, they need what the Rockets need, an elite wing who can flat out get his own buckets.
