I understand a lot of things about the officials are judgement calls or interperations of rules at the time of incident but what I dont get how they dont uphold easy rules that arent judgement related. For example, time outs. During the over time part of the game yesterday, there were 2 instances where 20 sec time out were called. The time outs lasted about 1min 10 sec - 1 min 30sec each. Bill and Clyde were talking about it also. I feel this is something that should be addressed by the league and tightened up. What is the point of having 20 sec time outs if they aren't going to keep time. I dont want to seem like a whinner or a nitpicker since we won the game but this kind of inconsistency is what makes the officiating so bad. Just imagine if we called the 20 sec time out and they really only gave us 20 secs, wouldnt that be unfair?
That's not the only mistake, I mean i mentioned this in a post not too long ago, these refs are really starting to decide the outcomes of some of our games this season. They either start calling ticky tack fouls to kinda force us to weaken our deference or overlooking when our players are getting mugged with clubs and chains in the paint and even grandma ma can see it without glasses on the top row of the bleachers. I really hope they review games like these and buck up, this is NO BUENO and I hate complaining about refs, but they are really dropping the ball more than Ariza and whatnot. I really hope that book they have been talkin about there are bets here and ther is not something thats both true and still going on cuz this is ri-damn-diculus. /end rant.
Bill, Clyde, and Matt are going to complain at every call that doesnt go our way, but when a bad call is called for us, they rarely say a word. Yes, the officials are sucking worse than usual, but you cant go off our commentators opinions.
One thing I've seen in the last couple of game is, a guy has the ball near the 3pnt line looking to pass and takes several mini set as he moves forward….RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE REF!!!!! This one happens a lot but isn't that bad when they are bringing the ball up but if they are setting a pick or crossing over with their hand under the ball, the player was clearly carrying the ball. I don’t know how many time I saw this in last nights game.
Seems as though it's been an unusually bad year for the refs, though. That's aside from the television crew's harping.
i totally agree on the 20 second timeouts. other fouls are objective, depends on angle, etc. but things like 3 second violation and 20 second timeouts are concrete numbers. it was ridiculous and they should've been given a delay of game or a T for that. anyone know what the official NBA rules are on that?
yeah sometimes fouls or violations really depends on angles and the speed of the game the refs are human after all. There are some fouls which are totally obvious that they miss which annoy me. but the timeout thing is straight forward last night it was bad as the wolves got a full timeout both times instead of a 20. I can understand a team getting an extra 10 seconds or so from a 20 i have seen refs allow that but they usually drag the team out. the first time the ref saying they were mopping the floor was BS the ball was being taken out on the other side of the court and the mop boy/girl could have easily mopped up the court without having any effect on the play. now there are 3 refs while its not their job to know who has how many timeouts and what types it is the timekeepers job to let one of the refs know that. seems like the timekeeper must have thought they had a full and then by the time they realized it was just a 20 it was too late so maybe the refs played the "mop" thing to cover up the mistake. that could explain it happening once but twice is just a poor poor job of officiating something that is totally objective
The officiating this year borders on the WWE. Pretty soon the NBA teams will have a schedule of 82 exhibitions.
Sumtimes they probably call them by the way the tempo Of the game is goin, also, when they see sum1 fall(flop) They automatically assume sum1 touched dem wen Deirs rly no contact.its annoyin, but deir humans too.I Think david stern shld make dem train more
Our losses on the road to the Hornets and the Bobcats were good examples of how officiating can influence the outcome of the game. We had things rolling - then ticky tack, phantom fouls called on us on both ends to get the Home team back in the game. By that time our rhythm had been disrupted so bad they actually started to stink it up. I know I can be a homer while watching the games, but when there is an 8 minute span where the calls are terrible in the second half, you can't help but shift some of the blame on bad officiating. What really irks me though is when I see officials furthest away from the play calling fouls on players he can't even see. When I see both officials simultaneously make the same call it's always a good call.
OFFICIALS ~ what is wrong with them: They aren't attractive, half-naked women...among other less-important things.
Which Bill, Clyde, and Matt are you watching?? Bullard says more often than not when a call goes against the Rockets and its the right call. And I have heard Worrell say quite a few times this season that the Rockets got away with one. And yes, Bullard even calls out Scola, Battier, and Lowry for flopping.
hahaha! We also had 2 games where they couldnt decide or couldnt distinguish the difference between a CHARGE and a BLOCKING foul so they had a JUMP BALL...
At first glance at a play...if they see a play that they think was a bad call..they look at the replay and claim and agree if it actually was a good call.. they've done that many times.. The worst commentators are from BOSTON...i watched the BOSTON-ATL game on NBATV...there was a play where there were TWO fouls on the Celtics on Josh Smith (got bumped driving, then got hit on the arm when going up for a shot) and they started to scream and holler abt a bad bail out call. Even after the replay showed multiple fouls, they kept disputing the call..
Refs suck this year, no doubt. In regard to those 20 second timeouts, maybe the refs needed a breather themselves.
