9-7 is a start but this team still needs lots of work. Will be interesting to see what's done about CB position and OL.

if this team had the running game with its two starting offensive guards, it would have probably won at least one of those close games. losing your running game and your tight end, both your qb's best friends, and still having a very productive offense says a lot about the offensive mind of kubiak. and I honestly think he does have the mindset to be a headcoach, he weathered the storm and finished winning four games in a row. a lot of people want a rah rah kind of guy, but i think his demeanor is what a headcoach's should be.

yeah, the schedule will be tough next year, but they will be better. I can't believe some of you guys' criticism, he took over basically an expansion roster. he has done an awesome job personnel wise imo and i cannot believe some fans still question his personnel decisions. you can't hit a homerun on every pick, but antoinio smith looks to be a decent signing (probably still overpaid). the only real miss so far is okeye and at least okeye plays. these guys picked up one safety during the middle of the season and it totally revamped their defense. and this guy is an offensive coach.

Not a huge Kubiak fan, but I don't have a problem with this.

For me, it was either Cower or Kubiak. You don't can Kubiak unless you have a better solution. IMO, Cower is the only better solution.

Still...if not for that moronic halfback-pass, we would've been resting players yesterday instead of scoreboard watching. Truly one of the worst playcalls I have ever seen in my 30+ years of watching football. No hyperbole.

BTW, DD....you do realize that you don't have to post in EVERY SINGLE THREAD on this bbs, right? Right?

    Fire Kubiak, sign Cower!

I don't care if we have a winning record for the first time, we should have been in the playoffs! That's what it's all about!

If you win only 1 game (@ Titans) of your divisional AFC South rivals, you have failed big time! No wins against the Jaguars? Are you kidding me?

Kubiak had enough time and seasons to get us to the playoffs!

Gonna have to disagree with a lot of folks and say that Kubiak has had more than enough chances. His coaching is HIGHLY suspect and he should be shown the door. Take, for example, that bonehead RB pass that was intercepted vs the Jags. You can't make calls like that on 1st and Goal from the 5 yd line on a critical possession against a division opponent. You just cannot. Add to that the miserable play of the Texans in the 2nd half of games (which, to me, indicates poor coaching adjustments at halftime), and you've got a coach that has not shown he's capable of winning games.

Yes, the players played their butts off in the 2nd half vs the Pats, and yes the team was playing desperation football for the last four games of the season, but they shouldn't have been in a situation where they needed to play desperation football. They were there because of poor coaching early in the season (most especially week 1 vs the Jets, which we've all seen has come back to bite us). Kubiak is gonna come back next year, and you'll see more bonehead calls, more mediocrity, more people calling for his head on a platter, and more meaningless wins at the end of the season to end up just at or above .500 ball.

    I really hope I'm wrong. But I don't think I am.

If we don't get it done next year, it's probably time to abandon the system anyway and let a new coach semi-rebuild. It's hard to plug in a new coach and be successful with the same system in place.

I have my doubts about him being able to coach a super bowl champion, but I'll take a playoff caliber coach for now.

Ending a season on a 4 game streak is an easy way to keep your job.

The Jets also had a defense and a running attack that were in place before Ryan got there. The scheme might have changed on the defensive side of the ball, but the players were there, along with the attitude. Remember, this is a Jets team that went 9-3 to start the year last year, and if Favre doesn't hit his December swoon, would have made it to the playoffs. And honestly, Sanchez is BAD. The dude is inaccurate, and he makes bad reads when the defense puts pressure on him. I'm not saying he won't improve, but the media's love affair with him makes me sick.

Also, to everyone saying that the progress is negligible.....Kubiak has this team winning 8 of our 10 non-division games. I understand that divisional games are incredibly important, but this team was in EVERY SINGLE game they played within the AFC South. Even if you're the most pessimistic person on the planet, you've gotta believe that a couple of things go our way in those games next year, and we can at least finish 3-3. I know the schedule gets MUCH tougher next season, but this team didn't get blown out once this year outside of the Jets game. We are truly good enough to beat anyone, and I want to see what Kubiak does with one more year of drafting, and one more year with Schaub. Besides, we're going to be paying him either way next season, so we might as well let him see this team through.

good post, sir. I've waffled several times on Mr. Kubiak -- but this is a good line of reasoning and I agree with you.

agreed again! dude, twice in one thread! :)

you are saying that a winning season is not a cover up but this is the first winning in the history of the team, so I like giving him another year.

He needs to do some changes and not call bad plays.

Despite being part of a meeting with the Buffalo Bills last week, it does not appear as if Bill Cowher will coach in the NFL next season, a source close to the situation told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Sources recently told ESPN's Chris Mortensen it is believed that owner Ralph Wilson Jr. and team president Russ Brandon met last week with Cowher to gauge his potential interest in returning to coaching.

Cowher reiterated on CBS' "The NFL Today" on Sunday that he is "not going to talk about any jobs during the regular season."

The Bills also met with Mike Shanahan after Dick Jauron was fired in November.

A Bills spokesman did not respond to voice and text messages regarding the Cowher meeting.

Looks like we have one more season to try to get the CHIN! :p

the only way i understand keeping kubiak is to not rock the boat. however, i remain skeptical that he is the man to lead us to the promised land. he does not look like a superbowl coach or a man to build a dynasty. am i too greedy, am i wrong?

You're not wrong. I've been pleased with the passing game in the last couple of years and I liked the Cushing pick. That's about all of the praise I have for Kubiak. He hasn't exactly converted me into a ZBS devotee. I absolutely do not get the sense that he gets the most out of his players. Some of the bizarre plays and choke jobs that he has helped orchestrate have been pop-art masterpieces. I expect next season will be his last.

They say brevity is the soul of wit.
