not as exciting as the possibility of Iggy/butler but i think it has a better chance of going down. rox: rip perfect for adelman. mobley expire, Hill... future decent bench player. pistons: shed even more salary. ariza can play his natural 3 alongside gordon and prince off the bench... allowing pistons to grab bosh. knicks: just another expiring for them. if he plays good this season they could sign him to play along with lebron.
I know there was a thread started on this BBS recently based on a bleacherreport article about a potential mega-trade with Indiana. The thread was locked (for good reason, since bleacherreport articles are pure conjecture), but the same trade rumor was actually mentioned on-air by Charlie Pallilo on SportsRadio 790 AM yesterday evening. I'm not too familiar with Charlie's track record on reporting trade rumors or whether he has any inside information or anything, but Charlie is widely regarded as the best sports radio guy in town. That said, here was the rumor: Indiana gets: Tracy McGrady, Brian Cook and a future pick Houston gets: Danny Granger, Troy Murphy and Mike Dunleavy At first glance, this trade sounds like something only a Rockets fan would propose. But if you look at the money involved, it starts to make a lot more sense for the Pacers, who are hemorrhaging money and are in seriously bad financial shape. While they would hate to lose Granger, this deal will save them about $4.6M this season and a whopping $31M next season!!! Now, if the Pacers were willing to do this deal, the Rockets would have to look long and hard at doing it. I imagine that this deal would force Les to pay luxury tax this year and a lot more next year. However, Morey might be able to minimize the luxury tax hit next year by getting Cleveland involved. If the Rockets can either flip Troy Murphy to Cleveland in exchange for Zydrunas Ilgauskas (expiring contract), or better yet, have Cleveland involved in a 3-way trade where Cleveland is the team giving up the pick, the Rockets would save up to $22M in salary and taxes next season. Of course, the Rockets would need to immediately agree to a buyout with Big Z so that he could re-sign with the Cavs. I don't know why the Cavs wouldn't do that deal from their perspective. The additions of Granger and Dunleavey (who, by the way, is best friends with Shane) will put the Rockets well over the luxury tax threshold next year if they want to retain Chuck Hayes, Luis Scola and Kyle Lowry. However, the tax hit would be much less harsh than the hit that Houston would have to take with an Iguodala/Dalembert trade. Granger makes less than Iguodala (and is, in my opinion, the superior player). Dunleavy makes much less than Dalembert, especially after figuring in Dalembert's trade kicker. So, if Danny Granger is that "special" player for whom Les would go over the tax, and if Les would have to pay less tax to get Granger than to get Iguodala, perhaps this is actually a cap-killing trade the Rockets might do. Again, pure speculation. But Charlie did take the time to mention this rumor.
John Granato was talking about that same trade this AM, so maybe it has legs, maybe not. I agree with you that it's a better trade than the Philly deal, although I disagree that Granger is better than Iguodala. Although both are very good players, I think Iguodala is better defensively than Granger. The salaries and moving parts in the Indy deal make a lot more sense than the Philly deal, certainly.
I just heard this on 1560! How do you not make this trade? A healthy Granger on this team would be incredible. There would have to be another deal or two if this happened no?
You dont think they got the info from here on Clutchfans? I know 1560 has the connections with CF and checks the site. Not sure about Charlie(doubtful imo). But if any legs to this rumor and its offered, you take it. JMO.
Good point. I doubt he would really say one way or another untill any deal is done. I think it is still very very unlikely.
I'm not going to put this in a riddle or act like I'm going to expose the source, but Joe is going to push very hard with Rip and Kwame being the primary players for mcgrady. Just sayin and it does make sense.
Danny Granger? Another forward? Another player who have a history of injury and is actually injured now? Hopefully its just another rumour.
Kwame sucks, but I guess he wouldn't be....bad as his contract ends next year and maybe he is possibly undervalued? Could understand him being a one year rental. Hamilton I'm less certain about, given his age and that he plays for a bad team. I don't know if we really want him. Now if we could get Prince, I'd be really happy.
Rockets gives: T-Mac Chase Budinger 2010 or 11 1st round pick Rockets gets: Joakim Noah Kirk Hinrich Caron Butler We're getting solid, young, defensive, shotblocking C, legit all around SF and good defensive, shooter PG. Chicago Gives: Hinrich Miller Deng Salmons Noah Chicago gets: T-Mac Javale McGee Big Z A.Parker JJ Hickson Houston's 1st round pick They're getting rid of Hinrich, Deng and Salmons albatross contracts and ready for the 2010 FA pool. This trade means Rose + 2 superstars cap for Chicago. Washington Gives: Caron Butler Javale McGee Washington gets: Brad Miller Chase Budinger Clearing Butler's contract since they're going nowhere with their so called big three, also getting cheap future talent in Chase. Cleveland Gives: Big Z(he'll return) Anthony Parker JJ Hickson Cleveland gets: Luol Deng John Salmons Lebron is getting the firepower he needs in Salmons and Deng. Z will be buy-out by Chicago and comes back to Cavs to get his ring and then retire.
as i said on one of my posts... If we can find someone of Scottie's caliber, we should trade for that player ASAP. Infact, If I was les alexander i would probably try to hire Pippen as a mentor or an assistant coach primarily to work with battier and ariza...
Taylor or Dorsey, to even out the roster space, at least. Maybe some of our Euro 2nd rounders (who haven't come over to the NBA yet).
