I just used blackrain on my iphone so I could get internet tethering working. I wasn't aware that blackrain allowed you to unlock the phone for use with other carriers, though. I thought it only jailbroke them. care to explain?
You do not have a warranty with AT&T. You have a warranty with Apple. Jailbreaking your phone voids that warranty even if you have AppleCare. It's a violation of the Apple Terms of Service you had to agree to in order to purchase the iPhone. From AT&T's terms of service: Be careful in jailbreaking your phone as well. I talked to a guy yesterday who just broke his third iPhone. He's jailbroken them all, and they've all ended up as bricks. Look, to be honest, I don't care what you do with your phone, but I wanted to let you know of these things before you do anything with it. If you mess up or have a problem, you're ultimately on your own. And, Rocket River, for the love of all that is good, there is no such thing as an iTouch. I just want to punch anyone in the face who says it. It's an iPod Touch.
Black rain has an add in called black snow. When you run black rain to install cydia and/or rock there's also a choice to install black snow. It's all on geohotz website, but it's pretty easy.
So even if you restore your phone to factory condition, Apple knows you jailbroke it and wont honor the warranty? My iPhone contract ended this week, so I'm eligible to upgrade to a 3GS for the promo price. I'm not sure I want to do it, though, since ATT can blow me. If I upgraded, I would likely jailbreak and sell my phone on craigslist.
Yes, but restoring your iPhone in iTunes basically wipes any presence of a jailbreak, giz did a great article on it.
Yup I have the same thing and worked fine. Basically the best thing to do is at least upgrade to version 3.1.2 on your phone. Then make sure when you sync the phone before the jailbreak you make a backup just in case you have to restore it for whatever reason you at least don't lose all your contacts, pictures, texts, etc. Use BlackRa1n, it doesn't get any easier than that. If you are on AT&T then you don't have to unlock it. All you need to do after that is go into BlackRa1n app on your phone and install Cydia or Rock, whichever one you want and your ready to go. As far as the free apps stuff goes you have to get a program called AppSync so it hacks the install information on your phone and you can just go ahead and download .ipa files or any games from any free source online like 4shared, etc and then you can install it through Itunes... Real easy.
This is 9000% true. Sometimes, however, you're not able to restore it at all -- that's what happens when it gets totally BRICKED.
What are some good jailbroken-only apps you guys have used? I read somewhere that there's an app that allows you to turn the iPhone into a wireless AP, but I cant' seem to find it. EDIT- I found it. MiWi
SB Settings is a nice one to have. You get to swipe way at the top by the carrier to the time and you get a little drop down where you can toggle 3G, airplane mode and all different settings you want instead of going through all the settings to get them. Really convenient. As far as the wireless access point I have to find the name. I had it a while back but didn't download it this recent time because i have a wireless internet card from work now. EDIT: MiWi is the one i have seen but I believe that's like 10 bucks or something isn't it?
I believe the exclusive deal is up next year so we have to see who will get it next. I know Verizon was in the running for a while but T-Mobile might make a push for it.
theres actually a patched version of the league pass that lets you watch every game, even rockets, so no blackouts.

Thanks for the links, but when I tried to sync the downloaded app with my iPhone, it said that it wasn't signed. How do I fix this?
Yes, it's jailbroken. I used blackra1n to jailbreak it and I use Cydia. Maybe I'm installing the app incorrectly. When I finish downloading the file from the link you provided, it takes me to iTunes and it shows the League Pass app under my app tab on iTunes. But when I try to sync my phone with iTunes, it says that the app could not be installed because it hasn't been signed yet. After doing a quick check on google, I found out that the developer of the apps have to "sign" their apps for the public to use them. So, do I need to download another program that allows me to use cracked apps? Do I maybe need to have another version of League Pass already on my iPhone beforehand?
1. Jailbeak with blackra1n 2. Install Cydia 3. Use Cydia to install "Installous" 4. Search in Installous for NBA LP, follow directions, install
