I wave my hand around with a "Whoop whoop whoop" in remembrance. I loved Arsenio Hall.. I remember sneaking to watch it when I was supposed to be asleep.

Nobody cancels a successful show. It was good but for whatever reason people stopped watching and then Letterman went to CBS and remember the show was syndicated so it was on stations that nobody really watched that often and CBS until Letterman's show started up and he got dumped by the CBS stations. He started in 89, so no, he didn't make late night a 3 person conversation, he did much better than that by being the first person to actually take a piece of the pie away from Carson.
Radiohead had their debut television performance in front of American audiences on the Arsenio Hall Show in 1994. <object width="320" height="265"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ctnKq209jNk&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ctnKq209jNk&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="320" height="265"></embed></object> Lol at Thom's locks.

maybe i'm not giving arsenio the credit he deserved, i was of course like everyone else a huge fan, he basically came out right before i hit hs and his freshness was a huge plus. I like johnny carson as a kid, and johnny remained cool but arsenio's show hit like wildfire. he had an incredible and to be honest I don't remember why I stopped watching him. I'm saying he basically fizzled out but when I really think about it, i can't say that is an absolute. to demonstrate how his popularity affected the scene, i remember this one snl skit on johnny carson that I last saw on the last snl anniversy show. if you remember for those that are old enough, dana carvey used to do a carson impresssion. well he did a skit that i may later try to find on you tube of carson trying to be like arsenio. he comes out in a red leather suit with spiked hair like a flat top. he had an extension on his finger (like keneen ivory Wayans used to do on Living Color) and he was doing the dog pound salute in carson's voice. absolute hilarity speaking of wayan brothers, in living color was also a good show that competed with snl in the same way someone like arsenio finally gave carson a run for his money.
didn't see when I started typing that post. no you tube access now anyway but thanks for pointing it out
It's Arseni ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Spoiler ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO [space so it can wrap] ooooooooooooooooooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO [more wrap] ooooooooooooooooooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO [more wrap] ooooooooooooooooooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO [more wrap] ooooooooooooooooooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO [more wrap] ooooooooooooooooooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO [more wrap] HALL!!! [shakes 'fingers' with Musical Director guy] I remember he had the lady who sang The Jeffersons' theme the entire show... and his musical director had the band cut off the song from "back from commercials" at the wrong time, and Janet Dubois was confused as in "WTF? I'm not done with the verse! " When Arsenio had C&C Music Factory perform "GONNA MAKE YOU SWEAT", he went and said hello and got down and did some push ups, mocking the main singer guy (I forget his name). Good times. No, way down on the list... just a tad above Magic Johnson.
The Arsenio Hall Show The Arsenio Hall Show is an American variety/talk show that aired late weeknights in syndication and aired from January 3, 1989 to May 27, 1994. It was around longer than I remembered.
"Queer Nation" I'm sure you guys are tired of my war stories.... HOWEVER I once hung out with Arsenio Hall at a strip bar in LA called "the century club". It was actually a few years after the show was canceled and I met him through a comedian friend we had in common. I was a lil shocked because it was rumored that he was gay, but pleasantly surprised when he bought my buddy and I table dances for the better part of 3 hours. I'd love to see Arsenio replace the abomination that is the "Mo'nique Show".
I remember being a kid and "camping" in a tent inside my living room I tuned on the TV and saw this white guy joking around with Arsenio...he the picks up a Sax and starts playing...the rest is history and I remember it.
