Harry Reid also thinks that negros cain't write too good:

MR. RUSSERT: Why couldn't you accept Clarence Thomas?

SEN. REID: I think that he has been an embarrassment to the Supreme Court. I think that his opinions are poorly written. I don't--I just don't think that he's done a good job as a Supreme Court justice.

Okay, not that I am justifying lying, but why is everyone taking everything in this book as gold. I would just deny everything.

this morning on the morning joe they were talking about other gossip from this book. howard dean was a guest and I have to agree with his point, all the problems we have in this country and people are all caught up in what is basically gossip?

I don't know if everything or even most of what this book says in true but Harry Reid has admitted to making the "Negro dialect" comment.

I suspect he thought he would just get into further difficulties if he denied it (i.e. lied) and it was later proven to be true.

Yep. When it comes to politics in most cases the coverup is worse than the what was covered up.

    "away" not "awhile"

Given the controversial nature of the comment though and that it likely can be corroborated Reid saying, "I don't remember" won't make it go away and will still be considered a coverup or a dodge.

Consider that many politicians have used that defense in regard to embarrassing comments and/or behavior and in pretty much all cases that defense hasn't been accepted.

seems like you are thoroughly married to your opinion on this so i don't know why you are arguing. anyway, gossip does matter. it has taken down many a public figure.

here is my basic issue. not only is it gossip, its just an off the cuff remark he said in private that can be interpeted anyway other than the fact he used the word "negro"

its one thing to go and dig up the fact that edwards cheated on his wife and has a baby out of wed lock. its another thing to report what some guy said in private about why he thinks obama can win.

what talented person would want to go into politics when they can't even be candid about things in private conversations. its bad enough you can't be candid with the american public.

Have to disagree if they both were speaking facts then it ok but if one "R" or "D" is not speaking the truth then its wrong.

i don't give a rat's ass about the majority of "gossip" out there but the court of public opinion does. my only issue is the "negro" thing. it's just so obviously out of touch and makes it seem the african-american community is just an afterthought for him. hell, i think he's an idiot so maybe it's just par for the course and i am making something out of nothing.
