the only thing Morey can do is wait, until teams start getting desperate.

don't remember the circumstances, but those deals happened a long time ago, and they could be the reason for the current philosophy.

Seems kind of petty. You won't let the guy play and you won't let him play else where.

You don't sell classic mustang on ebay for 10 bucks if you don't want to drive it any more.

Right. The one difference using that analogy is the city will come and tow the car away and you get nothing. Might as well do something before your ownership of it ends.

Insurance covers 80% of t-mac's salary anyway. Unless t-mac is willing ot let go of 80% of his earnings after the trade deadline, then i don't see them buying him out.

I'm guessing it's implied that they simply oppose to buyouts of players who isn't about to retire and may screw you by joining an opponent.

    and brent retired

i think its just clear that they do not want to buy him out and see him go elsewhere and play.

i dont like the idea of buyouts that get initiated from the players side. i mean like with marbury, zo and others in the past they pout about not playing, get a good chunk of money and then go play elsewhere.

it would be giving in to tracy mcgrady again (and getting nothing in return) which i think the organization will not want to do

I hope TMac comes out a better man through this and "proves us all wrong". He's smart enough to change his game if he wanted to. If he had, he wouldn't be in this situation.

Always sucks to see an NBA talent not playing to his potential.

    Makes sense....

if we dont need a roster spot and by buying him out he goes to a competitior.

    Doesnt make sense....

if the buyout agreement gets us under the luxury tax for this year.

It kinda sucks from the McGrady standpoint because he is in his contract year and if people dont see him play how will they know how much to pay him. Kinda screws him over for next year but he's a multimillionaire with a deal with Adidas. Im sure he ll make it out there.

Let's not forget they won't "let the guy play" because he won't play the right way.

You make your bed you lie in it.

If T-Mac doesn't get traded, the only way he gets a buyout is if it gets the Rockets UNDER the lux tax threshold.
I see that as HIGHLY unlikely since we've been paying his salary for almost half the season now (and more than that by the time the trade deadline rolls around).

So TMac would be owed, say, $11 million, and the Rockets would be asking him to take something like $7 in order for a buyout to work.
My guess is that he might do that so that he can play (and therefore get paid more than $1million next season.)

But obviously the Rockets talk tough on buyouts right now so that Tracy realizes he's either rotting on the pine, or taking whatever they offer.

As a side note, I wonder what McGrady expects to earn next season? For mine he'll get MLE from someone (Cleveland?) provided he has the opportunity to play later this season, and show that he's got something left in the tank. But it's an ENORMOUS paycut from $23million down to $5.5....

Reward a player that quit on his team and announced his surgery to the world before telling his team so he COULDN'T be traded last year?

    If we can't trade him....

    LET HIM ROT MOREY.

It's always made me wonder what they ended up paying Brent...

Most salary sites have him listed as $2.1m against the cap - but I always wonder if they were able to negotiate something a little lower - surely a canny operator like Morey was able to knock something off the price tag?
