i see Gerhart available for us in the second round. I really like Mt. Cody even if we don't run a 3-4
I thought Barber was playing Free Safety? Pollard took over for Bushing because he is Matt Stevens 2.0 Having Pollard and Earl Thomas at the safety spots would be very nice.
I'm not jumping on the Gerhart bandwagon. He was a great college RB but I don't see his skills translating in the NFL. He doesn't have good speed and I don't see him getting the same YAC he was getting against Pac 10 defenses. I would gladly take Cody though. He's the big run stopper/block eater that I've been wanting to add to our DL for a while now. I'd be ecstatic with Cody or Earl Thomas in the 1st round.
WalterFootball just kills him: Mays isn't a free safety at the next level; no chance he pans out there because he is horrible in coverage and has zero ball skills. Mays idea of playing football is running and throwing his body around, which is why I am giving him the nickname “The Trojan Torpedo.” I think Mays can start at strong safety for some team, but he will be pretty average. Mays is the Vernon Gholston of safety prospects. Sure he has great measurables, but so did Gholston. I personally wouldn't draft Mays in the top 40 picks, but his draft range is all over the board. He could go top five to a team like Oakland or he could fall to the lower part of the first round. http://walterfootball.com/scoutingreport2010tmays.php Of course they just kill everyone: Summary: Colt McCoy is the next overhyped collegiate quarterback who really doesn't have much of a chance in the NFL. He is a late-round talent, and don't let ESPN fool you. His talent is pretty mediocre when you consider the things he will have to do in the NFL in terms of the transition to a more West Coast or pro-style spread scheme. He won't stretch a defense in the NFL and the system makes him look far better than he is at Texas. McCoy is a great college quarterback, but simply isn't an NFL mold. He's a projected fifth-to-seventh-round prospect. McCoy might develop into a solid backup quarterback at the next level, but he is simply not the prospect ESPN wants you to think he is. http://walterfootball.com/scoutingreport2010cmccoy.php
I think moving up is a distinct possibility this year. The org needs to be aggressive this off-season.
Here is an early mock... http://www.mynfldraft.com/NFL-Mock-Draft They have us taking Earl Thomas with pick 20. They have Terrence Cody going to Miami in the 2nd round (Pick 44, steal).
Nobody loves mock drafts more than me, but we all know that they are inevitably wrong and only have any validity through about 5 picks. But since we have a lot of time to kill between now and April and I know we can't resist I suggest we at least limit ourselves to posting mock accumulator sites that average the picks of multiple mock sites. The walterfootball site has links to 72 mocks that are somewhat professional if you just want to kill an afternoon.
I don't see any can't miss RB's, CB's or S's besides Joe Haden and Eric Berry and they will be gone by the time we pick. Earl Thomas hasn't declared as of yet. I think the injuries to our Guards is why we couldn't run the ball like we did last year. Mike Iupati from Idaho is a beast (6'6 330 lbs.) and although it's not a sexy pick he will improve the running game and help protect our qb's for the next 10 years.
No, because he's very athletic for a guy that size. Besides Briesel is 6'5 305, and Chester Pitts is 6'4 325
I think Mike Iupati could be our Steve Hutchinson. Look what happened to Shaun Alexander after Hutchinson went to the Vikings in 2006. 2004 1696 yds 4.8 YPC 2005 1880 yds 5.1 YPC 2006 896 yds 3.6 YPC 2007 716 yds 3.5 YPC Iupati blows up Malaluga
From many reports I've read, Cody is projected to be a 2-down lineman. I don't really like the idea of drafting a 2-down player in the first round.
