Is there a racist element in some people's predictions that Ming will be a bust?

I think we need more threads on racism.

Well, at least no one is freaking out in this one.

Whatever you do, don't call him a Chinaman!!!!!

Racial issues increase knowledge and promote understanding. To shy away for this issue only serves to fortify ignorance.

    IMHO Great query SJC.

    I agree.

Although there is the BBS Hangout. Thats a great forum for discussions of different beliefs and opinions on non-Rocket related things.

This is Rocket-related, but this topic has been covered in detail on many threads, including the Chinaman one.

    I hate the offseason.

Lets bash Moochie for awhile or something.

I don't think Q Rich is racist or represents black people....I think Q Rich is a moron judging from the rest of the show.He is like a lil' spoiled kid in my opinion and so was Darius Miles.

I think these guys are intimidated by Yao and his potential and all little men want to see the GIANT fall.

Not to mention some players are probably a little envious that Yao was taken with the first pick and they were not even close.

I see QRich as one of those guys we will look back on and say "Yeah, now you wish you had Yao don't you?"

I do wonder though if coaches put in black players instead of foreign players to keep their star black players happy...ultimately affecting the potential of many foreign players and adding to the stereotypes that some have come to accept?Such as they are too weak and unathletic to compete in the NBA.

I think more than anything that it won't be racism that affects Yao in a negative manner, it will be NATIONALISM.

No American white or black want to see a foreigner exceed in an American sport. It threatens our domination, that's what is scaring the hell out of all these American players.

If QRich is stupid enough to base his judgements on race then he will have a hard time convincing stupid white racists that he is not a thug, because they base their judgements on race and not on facts as well.

Perhaps though, QRIch has seen enough Yao Ming to make him believe the way he does, if so, then you will have to bring the BBS some of the valid evidence that you have based your potentially racist conclusions upon.Black scouts and white scouts both are all morons, these guys that enter the NBA all have potential to excell in one aspect or another in the NBA, especially a 7'6" guy.Judging from facts and the history of the NBA I believe Ming is more likely to stop Shaq and Kobe (If possible ever) before Q Rich will. Therefore, giving me the feeling that QRich will be the bust and not MING.

Remember when Keith Van Horn was tearing it up his rookie year, and Jayson Williams dubbed him the Great White Hope? Or when the next Jason Williams was dubbed "White Chocolate" because he was flashy and was set for the hip hop generation?

It could be ignorance or something unconscious that black players think that they are the standard because they have the best and highest paid players in the NBA.

It's still ignorance, but I'd be more offended if Ming had respectable numbers at the end of the year and people are still dissing him for no reason.

Dada the math formula analagy was good stuff.

I do agree that it's ignorance, but I don't agree that it's racist.

Racism comes from ignorance but itsn't the exact same thing. A person can be ignorant because he hasn't seen all the footage of Ming, and just going on what little he's seen and heard can think Ming will be a bust. That doesn't mean he believes Ming will be a bust based on the fact that he's Chinese.

I think Richardson's opinion is based on ignorance but not racism.
